According to anonymous officials, Kiev and Washington reached a broad economical agreement that includes the exploitation of Ukrainian uncommon earth minerals. U.S. president Donald Trump said Zelenski could visit the US on Friday to sign the agreement.
One of the officials who spoke on condition of being anonymous said that Kiev hopes that the agreement will improve its relations with Washington and supply long-term support from the US, which Ukraine urgently needs.
Why it matters: Trump's administration sees the agreement as a way to get a return on U.S. investment in Ukraine, which is reported to have immense unused mineral wealth.
Earlier, Trump wrote on fact Social, after a Monday virtual G7 meeting, commemorating 3 years since Russia's invasion of Ukraine "the importance of a major agreement on critical minerals and uncommon earths between the United States and Ukraine, which we hope will be signed very quickly!"
He added that the agreement would aid “the American people recover tens of billions of dollars and military equipment sent to Ukraine and at the same time aid the Ukrainian economy make after the end of the dirty and brutal war.”
The agreement provides for the creation of an Investment Fund for Reconstruction, which will be co-managed by the US and Ukraine.

It adds that the fund will be designed "to invest in projects in Ukraine and attract growth-enhancing investments", including in areas specified as mining and ports.
However, it besides suggests that the United States will recover any of the expenditure related to "defence, reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine" to pre-war GDP.
Zelenski told reporters that the American side withdrew the request to receive $500 billion from Ukrainian mineral projects – a sum that, according to Zelenski, is much greater than the U.S. contribution to Ukraine.
Zelenski rejected the thought of treating aid to Ukraine as debt should be repaid and added that the agreement must include US military support to Ukraine.
Intrigue: however, the task expresses a desire for Ukraine to stay free, but does not specify any U.S. military engagement.

Nobody mentions that Europe, including Poland, besides contributed to Ukraine. The agreement applies only to the US and Ukraine. Zielenski had a line of politicians in Europe, and now he prefers Donald?
