The resolution adopted on Monday by the main UN body called on Israel and Palestinians to immediately cease their armed activities and unconditionally release all hostages and detainees.

14 members of the safety Council voted in favour of the resolution, while 1 – the US – abstained. U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, accused Palestinian Hamas of delaying the adoption of the ceasefire resolution, while expressing discontent with the deficiency of inclusion in the Hamas condemnation resolution.

The White home stated that the final resolution did not meet US expectations, but that does not mean changing their policy towards the conflict in Gaza.

The Israeli authorities interpret the deficiency of veto by the US as a clear departure from the erstwhile post, which could negatively affect the war effort against Hamas and the efforts to free hostages.

Israel so decided not to send a high-level delegation to Washington to meet US president Joe Biden, which was met with disappointment from the White House.

The UN resolution, despite the grip of the Israeli blockade, besides called for refugees to return to their homes, access to humanitarian support and designation of the Palestinian people's right to sovereign statehood.

The wellness ministry led by Hamas reports that at least 32,333 people have died in Gaza since the beginning of the conflict, and over 74,694 have been injured, mostly women and children. Additionally, as of October 7, at least 450 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank and 4,650 injured.

Today, about 7,000 Palestinians are detained without judicial judgement in Israeli detentions and prisons.
