The “My Current” programme is 1 of the most crucial tools to support the improvement of renewable energy in Poland, which has enjoyed constant interest among prosumers for respective years. As part of the next editions of the programme, the Ministry of Climate and Environment introduced many changes and improvements, adapting it to the dynamically changing needs of the marketplace and technology. As of September 2024, the "My Current" programme will enter a fresh phase, the key component of which will be mandatory energy retention for photovoltaic installations (PV).
New requirements: mandatory energy storage
Changes to the programme
Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Miłosz Motyka, announced the introduction of mandatory energy warehouses for fresh PV installations, which aims to full exploit the possible of prosumers. The "My Current 6.0" programme is to be ready for autumn, and the fresh edition of the program is to introduce the work to acquisition the energy retention with PV installation. This is aimed at expanding energy efficiency and the stableness of the electricity grid.
Announcement by the NFOŚiGW
The president of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), Dorota Zawadzka-Stępniak, announced that the fresh edition of the program will start in September. Under this scheme, subsidies for PV installations will be subject to the acquisition of energy storage. From a circumstantial date of connection, each fresh installation will should be equipped with an energy retention unit. The backing will include investments completed, purchased after 1 January 2021, and connected in the net-billing settlement system.
Budget and financial support
PLN 400 million will be allocated to the fresh edition of the “My Current” program. So far, PLN 2.6 billion has been paid to beneficiaries in all editions of the programme. The fresh programme is to proceed and make this trend, offering financial support for investments in renewable energy sources and energy efficiency technologies.
So far, the success of My Current
Previous Edit Statistics
In erstwhile editions of the “My Current” program there was a immense interest. In edition 5.0, over 88.5 1000 applications were submitted for subsidies for the acquisition of photovoltaic panels, 4.1 1000 applications for energy management systems, over 5.4 1000 for heat storage, nearly 10 1000 for energy storage, over 15.7 1000 for heat pumps and 163 applications for solar collectors.
Technological improvement and energy efficiency
The “My Current” programme has importantly contributed to the promotion of renewable energy sources in Poland, especially photovoltaics. The introduction of subsidies for additional components specified as energy storage, heat pumps and energy management systems has enabled a more comprehensive approach to energy efficiency. This makes it possible to make better usage of the energy produced and increase the energy independency of prosumers.
New opportunities and challenges
Integration of energy storage
Mandatory energy retention is designed to improve the stableness of the energy grid and the efficiency of the usage of energy produced by PV installations. Energy retention allows for the collection and usage of surplus energy produced at a later time, reducing network burden and allowing better energy management.
Support for prosumers
New requirements can be challenging for prosumers, especially in financial terms. However, thanks to the financial support from My Current and the availability of fresh technologies, investments in energy retention can be profitable. backing aims to reduce first costs and to encourage more people to invest in renewable energy sources.
The Future of My Current
The introduction of mandatory energy retention is simply a step towards a more sustainable and efficient energy system. The Ministry of Climate and Environment plans to further make the ‘My Current’ programme to support energy transformation and increase the share of renewable energy sources in the national energy mix.
Since September 2024, the “My Current” programme has been making crucial changes to increase energy efficiency and the stableness of the electricity grid through mandatory energy storage. The fresh edition of the programme, scheduled for autumn, offers financial support for the acquisition of energy retention facilities along with PV installations, an crucial step towards more sustainable and independent energy. Thanks to this programme, Poland can become a leader in renewable energy sources, and prosumers will gain fresh opportunities and benefits from investing in green energy.
