Expanding in India

The launch of flights to Ahmedabad is another milestone in Azerbaijan Airlines’ strategic expansion into South Asia. It already operates flights to Delhi (DEL) 3 times a week with A320neo aircraft and Mumbai (BOM) 4 times weekly with A320neo aircraft.

With the addition of Ahmedabad, Azerbaijan Airlines will be serving three Indian cities with a combined total of 11 weekly flights, showcasing the airline’s confidence in the Indian market. Apart from Azerbaijan Airlines, IndiGo operates daily flights between Delhi and Baku.

The growing number of Indian travelers to Azerbaijan, particularly for tourism, business, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) purposes, has been a driving force behind this expansion. The introduction of e-visas and increased cultural exchange programs between the two countries have further fueled demand.

Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat and a vital economic and cultural hub in western India. Moreover, Gujarat has a sizeable outbound travel market, especially among families and high-spending leisure travelers. These new flights might help in significantly boosting that trend.

Final Thoughts

The launch of the Baku–Ahmedabad service marks a major milestone for Azerbaijan Airlines. It opens up new travel opportunities for passengers and further strengthens the cultural and economic ties between India and Azerbaijan.

With demand on the rise, both Delhi and Mumbai could see an increase in flight frequencies in the near future. As Azerbaijan Airlines continues to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, more cities across the country may get a non-stop connection to Baku in the coming years.
