The Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica is being walled up. In mid-January there will be a statue of the walling of a capsule containing the act of Rogito – informing about the closure of the Holy Door by Pope Leon XIV and memorabilia from the Jubilee of Hope.

Leon XIV closed the Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica on 6 January in the celebration of the Lord's Revelation. Then the Jubilee of 2025 was formally completed.

A wall of 2,000 bricks

The clouding of the Holy Door takes respective days after that event. Currently, in the recess in which the Holy Door is located, there are inactive masonry works which are carried out by the technicians of St Peter's mill – alleged sampietrini. From the inside of the Basilica, a wall is built from about 2,000 bricks marked with symbols of Leon XIV, which will safe the Holy Door until the next Jubilee. This is planned for 2033 and will be the Jubilee of Redemption, on the 2000th anniversary of the death and resurrection of Christ.

A capsule with keys to the Holy Door

In the wall, which is now built at the Holy Doors, an beginning for a metallic capsule (capsis) was left in which there will be crucial objects related to the Jubilee. First of all, there will be an act of Rogito in the capsule, which confirms the closure of the Holy Door by Pope Leon XIV. There are besides coins minted during the Jubilee of Hope and medals of the last popes, as well as keys and handles to open the Holy Door during the next Jubilee and respective bricks with papal crest.

Ceremony of the Wall

After the full wall is built inside the basilica (similar to the another 4 papal basilicas) there will be a ceremonial ceremony of sealing the Holy Door, the alleged "walling" rite, which will be presided over by the Office of Papal Liturgical Celebrations.

Bricks as foundations

The wall, which is now rising in front of the Holy Doors, will be broken before the next Jubilee begins. The bricks utilized to build it will traditionally be donated as souvenirs or e.g. foundations for the construction of fresh churches, buildings belonging to church institutions.
