SYDNEY- A Qantas (QF) customer service employee has been hospitalised with head injuries after falling approximately 5 metres from an aerobridge at Sydney Airport’s T3 Domestic Terminal on Saturday.
This incident highlights the potential hazards faced by airport ground staff who regularly work at heights while facilitating passenger boarding and disembarkation procedures at major transportation hubs.

Qantas Employee Fall at Sydney Airport
Emergency services responded to calls at approximately 12:30 PM, reporting the workplace accident at the domestic terminal. First responders initially attended to the victim at the scene before additional medical assistance arrived.
NSW Ambulance dispatched multiple crews to the location, including a specialist medical team equipped to handle serious injuries. The injured employee, believed to be a woman in her 40s, received immediate medical attention before transport.
Following initial treatment at the scene, ambulance personnel transported the injured Qantas (QF) team member to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Medical authorities confirmed the employee suffered head injuries resulting from the substantial fall.
Sydney Airport (SYD) management confirmed they have contacted SafeWork NSW regarding the workplace incident. A SafeWork NSW spokesperson verified that an official investigation into the circumstances of the fall has commenced.
“Our focus is on the welfare of the injured staff member and assisting SafeWork NSW with their enquiries.”

Qantas Response
A Qantas (QF) spokesperson issued a statement emphasising that the airline’s immediate priority is supporting their injured colleague during recovery. The airline confirmed it will fully cooperate with both Sydney Airport (SYD) management and SafeWork NSW throughout the investigation process.
The investigation will likely examine safety protocols surrounding aerobridge operations and determine what factors contributed to the serious workplace accident.

Other Incident at Sydney Airport
In March 2025, Australian authorities detained 31-year-old Owen John Pantea after he allegedly brought a knife into Sydney Airport (SYD), with bail denied appearance at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court.
The arrest followed reports from alarmed passengers who witnessed Pantea stabbing bus seats, rubber handles, and guardrails while traveling from Central Station to the airport.
Australian Federal Police officers responded to the arrivals forecourt, where they apprehended Pantea, who was reportedly holding what police identified as a hay-bale hook at the time of his arrest.
The incident has raised security concerns at one of Australia’s busiest transportation hubs, where strict protocols govern potentially dangerous items permitted within terminal areas, resulting in Pantea being remanded in custody as legal proceedings commence.
