Presidential Election: Stormy Political Evening

On Friday, March 10, 2023, Poland witnessed a stormy political evening which attracted the attention of many citizens. In Koński, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, a presidential debate was held, organized by TVP, TVN24 and Polsat News. However, there was an incidental before the debate began, in which safety had to intervene.

The crowds occurred at the entrance to the hall in Koński, where a presidential debate was organised. According to the media, Michał Guardyński, writer of tv Republic, tried to enter the building by force. safety working in the building tried to close the door at that time, which was effectively prevented by the crowd. "We are the biggest tv in Poland," the writer shouted. He answered, “This does not mean that you should usage your fists.” In the midst of a brawl, we heard shouts: “What are you doing? The debate began before 9:00 p.m. and was broadcast by TVP, TVN and Polsat. tv Republic besides showed it. The writer stressed that the debate was organised by the electoral staff of Rafał Trzaskowski. The debate was attended by candidates for president of the Republic of Poland, including 3rd Dear Simon Holownia, candidate of the fresh Left Magdalena Biejat, erstwhile SLD MP Joanna Senyszyn, Marek Jakubiak (Free Republicans), Krzysztof Stanowski and Maciej Maciak.

The debate began with the question of restoring compulsory military service. Earlier on Friday, a debate was held on the city marketplace in Koński, organized by tv Republika, in which all candidates, including Rafał Trzaskowski, did not participate. The debate was attended by: Karol Nawrocki (PiS), Szymon Holownia (Third Road), Magdalena Biejat (New Left), Joanna Senyszyn (former SLD MP), Marek Jakubiak (Free Republicans), Krzysztof Stanowski and Maciej Maciak.

According to a survey conducted by the Institute for Social Research, 55% of respondents declare that they will participate in the presidential election. In turn, 21% of respondents declare that they will not take part in the elections. The another respondents (24%) do not yet know whether they will participate in the elections.

It is worth reminding that the presidential elections in Poland will take place in May 2023. The election will be attended by 9 candidates, including Rafał Trzaskowski (KO), Andrzej Duda (PiS), Szymon Holownia (Third Road), Magdalena Biejat (New Left), Joanna Senyszyn (former SLD MP), Marek Jakubiak (Free Republicans), Krzysztof Stanowski and Maciej Maciak.

Statistics show that 48.9% of those eligible to vote took part in the 2015 presidential election. In 2020 attendance was 64.5%. In the 2015 presidential election, Andrzej Duda (PiS) won, gaining 51.7% of the vote. In the 2020 presidential election, Andzhoj Duda (PiS) won, gaining 50.69% of the vote.

Finally, it is worth adding that presidential elections are among the most crucial elections in Poland. The election of the president affects the country's policy and the economy. Therefore, voters should carefully consider their choices and learn about candidates and their programs.
