Orban: I am only curious in Hungary (1)

Prime Minister, the full planet is talking about what happened in Russia on Saturday. What did you think erstwhile Evgeny Prigozhyn, the PMC chief of Wagner, ordered his troops to decision towards Moscow?

– I don't attach much importance to this event.

Don't you attach quite a few weight?

- Yeah.

How weak is Putin from your point of view?

– If this had started and lasted a long time, it would have been a clear sign of weakness. But if everything has been solved in 24 hours, it's a sign of force.

I mean, you think Putin's strong.

– You know Putin is the president of Russia. If individual assumes that he will be defeated or can be removed, then this individual does not realize the Russian people and Russian power structures.

Tell me why! We see mercenaries heading for Moscow. Nobody's stopping them. They were already in Rostov, and neither the military nor the peculiar services stopped them. From my point of view, it looked like he lost control for a while.

– most likely did.

But you think Putin is strong. So why is this happening?

– due to the fact that this is Russia. And Russia works and functions differently than European countries.

How do you view the current situation?

– I believe that the situation you described is already in the past, but the war in Ukraine continues. This is not an event that will lead us to peace. I always consider all conflict from 1 point of view – from the point of view of this, as shortly as possible, to accomplish peace. due to the fact that I think the most crucial thing is to scope a truce and to establish any kind of peace. And the event you mentioned doesn't matter.

Do you think Putin will inactive be president in 2024?

– Of course, it's real.

Why are you so sure? In fresh days, a lot has been said about the weakness of Russian keroivism...

– erstwhile there is war, talking about war is part of the war itself, which means that specified talks are a verbal continuation of war activities, or propaganda.

You say it's propaganda, but at the same time we saw that Putin looked weak for a fewer hours due to the fact that he said he would punish the Primogyn, but yet the Prigozhyn could go to Belarus. How can that be explained?

– You see, this is Russia. Russia functions differently than we do. The structures in Russia are very stable. They are based on military, peculiar services, police. It's a different kind of country. This is simply a country with military orientation. Don't forget that Russia is not a country like Germany. Yes, this is not a country like Hungary either. It's a different world. The structures are different, the power is different, stableness is different. If we want to realize how it works with our logic, we will always be wrong.

What could possibly bring Putin down now?

– I don't know what I could say about that. I'll say no 1 knows. Putin has a strong position, he is the elected leader of Russia, he is respected, and the structures of the state are rather strong. That is why we must take the full Russian state seriously.

In 1989, you gave a bold speech in Budapest demanding the withdrawal of russian troops from Hungary. Why a fewer decades later, in a sense, did you put your country on the side of Russia and are considered Putin's friend in Europe?

– Are you trying to provoke me with this question? You know very well that if you tell Hungary that we are pro-Russian or friends with the Russians, it will conflict with our historical experience. I'm fighting in the interests of Hungary. I'm not worried about Putin. I don't care about Russia. I care about Hungary. This means that everything I do, my views and actions are to benefit Hungary. Definitely everything that is happening between Russia and Ukraine now is bad for Hungarians. It's dangerous for us. We lost people there, a Hungarian number lives there. The danger of war is straight affecting us. This is not like in the case of Germany, you have Poland and Hungary between you and the conflict in Ukraine.
