
Celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the conflict of Monte Cassino - 08.10.2025.

On 11 May 1944, General Władysław Anders wrote in an order addressed to his troops: “The task which we have received will make the name of the Polish soldier famous.”. 7 days later, on the ruins of the monastery of Monte Cassino, Hejnał Mariacki was played, announcing the triumph of Polish soldiers. However, it was besides a triumph of their allies, as soldiers of 10 nationalities from 5 continents fought in the conflict of Monte Cassino on the side of the allies. The conflict of Monte Cassino opened the way for Allied troops to Rome, which was captured on 4 June 1944. Which triumph was decided by courage, heroism and dedication of the Polish weapon. 923 Polish soldiers were killed in the fight for the hill, 2931 wounded. At the turn of 1944 and 1945, a Polish military cemetery was built between the hills of Monte Cassino and the 593th Polish military cemetery, which rests 1072 fallen soldiers of the Republic. Detached pilgrims in Rome participated in the general audience of Pope Leon XIV. In the intention of their homeland and countrymen, they prayed on the grave of late John Paul II, our beloved pope Pole. In tribute to the soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps, the possessive patriots went to Monte Cassino. Before the grave of General Władysław Anders and Captain Irena Renata Anders, the national anthem and song "Red Maki on Monte Cassino" was sung. The pilgrims laid flowers and lit candles. They said a prayer for the fallen soldiers who gave their lives in a abroad country for free Poland.
