Minister Kowalczyk resigned after the EC published a task to extend duty-free imports of cereals from Ukraine

On Wednesday (5.04.2023), Minister of Agriculture Henryk Kowalczyk resigned. – Since it is very clear that the basic request of farmers will not be met by the European Commission, I made a decision and resigned as Minister of Agriculture and agrarian improvement said during the press conference.

In his statement, Kowalczyk pointed out that "one of the points of the Agricultural circular Table Agreement was the commitment to request the European Commission to launch a safeguard clause on duty-free and quota-free imports of cereals from Ukraine". He besides stated that specified a request was sent to the European Commission on 31 March by the Polish government together with the governments of Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.

Unfortunately, the European Commission has published a proposal to extend duty-free and quota-free imports of cereals from Ukraine for another year, to apply from June this year to June 5, 2024.
