Work is ongoing on authoritative designation of the martyr of the heroic priest Paul Kontny. The clergyman was murdered by russian military as he tried to save the girls from rape by degenerates from the Red Army ranks. He is another priest who was the victim of “liberation” which was expected to bring Poland “red plague”.
In Rome, Fr Bogusław Kozioł TChr is present, who deals with the character of the heroic priest and will lead his beatification process. It is about the authoritative designation of Fr.
– He died due to the fact that he stood up for 2 girls who were harassed by a Russian soldier – described the figure of the murdered priest Fr Kozioł. He shouted to them: “You are specified deliverers? And what are you even doing here? And of course, like the soldiers, they started to endanger to shoot. They knew who he was due to the fact that Fr Paul was in the cassock, so there was no uncertainty that he was a priest. He died as a good shepherd for his sheep— He added.
– All the testimonies of those who knew Fr Kontnego describe him as a very kind, dedicated, happy... specified simply a good priest – noted Fr Bogusław. Christowiec is the postulator of the beatification process of a priest – a martyr of planet War II, murdered by russian soldiers on 1 February 1945 in Lędziny, advanced Silesia.
"In relation to Fr Kontnego, I must convey the painful and joyful news that he is already dead. For he died as a martyr in defence of a woman's honour in Lędzin and was buried there with a immense share of the population of the Ilędzin parish as well as the full area. Russian soldiers who wanted to commit rape were punished and 1 of them even shot" – wrote then Bishop Stanislaw Adamski (21 March 1945) to Fr Ignacy Posadze, who served as the Superior of the Society of Christ.
In defense
He died due to the fact that he defended 2 girls who were harassed by a Russian soldier. He stood up for their dignity and purity, protecting them from kidnapping and rape. Fr Paweł Kontny tried to search rescue at home, where the russian army staff was temporarily located. Fr Bogusław Kozioł note that it is crucial that the martyr was shot in the sheepyard area – the premises where sheep were stored.
The martyr's body was buried at the scene. After 3 days, erstwhile the front moved further west, the corpses were exhumed and moved to the close Boromeus Sisters monastery, and then to the church under St. Clement. The ceremony of Fr. Paul Kontny was held on 8 February in Lędziny. During the ceremony Mass, his martyrdom was mentioned. According to the testimonies, the service became a spiritual manifestation. 10 priests and a large crowd of laymen attended the funeral, which was very crucial at the time. Fr Kozioł added that on his grave, as well as the book of the dead, there is an inscription written: "He died as a Good Shepherd for his sheep."

Fr Kozioł confessed that plans for the close future were the authoritative start of the beatification process. He's here. nihil obstat published by the Polish Episcopal Conference and the Dicastery of Canonization Affairs. On November 1, last year, Archbishop Adrian Galbas, the then Katowice metropolitan (in the area of this diocese he worked and was killed by Fr Kontny) issued an edict allowing the beginning of the beatification process. In view of the vacancy in the Archdiocese of Katowice, it remains to wait for the fresh archbishop to establish a tribunal to be able to begin the first session of the proceedings.
