Due to the hazard of spread of avian influenza virus, the European Commission (EC) plans to introduce emergency measures in any areas of Poland. In the last 2 months, 53 outbreaks of avian influenza have been confirmed in Poland in Mazowieckie and Wielkopolskae voivodships, and 73 in the full country.
The high-risk areas are Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Łódź, Mazowieckie, Warmian-Masurian and Wielkopolska provinces, where there is simply a large density of poultry plants. In these areas, the EC plans to introduce emergency measures that may include a ban on the sale of poultry from affected areas.

The economical impact may be significant, as a ban on the sale of poultry from affected areas may affect many producers and exporters of poultrymeat. In 2020, exports of poultry meat from Poland amounted to EUR 1.3 billion, which represented 11% of all food exports from Poland.
