Forgotten Heroes: Bohdan Tymieniecki

Thinking about the actions of the 2nd Polish Corps, Polish society most frequently associate the struggles of Polish soldiers with specified battles as Monte Cassino, Bologna or Ancona. However, the fighting way of those who wanted to scope free Poland was abounding in many battles, which unfortunately are small known to the average Pole.

The memories of combat participants are a large way of these frequently forgotten clashes. 1 of specified forgotten readings showing the tragedy of war was left for us by Bohdan Tymieniecki. He was born in Warsaw in 1907. He participated in the 1939 Polish campaign.

Through Hungary, he reached France. After her surrender, he went to Britain. In 1941, he went to Palestine. Eventually, he passed his conflict way in the ranks of the 2nd Polish Corps. He fought, among others, in the conflict of Piedimonte San Germano, for which he received the Virtutu Militari order. He led a maneuver breaking the German front at Ancona. After the war, he lived in Britain, where he died in 1992.

In his reminiscences written in the 1970s, “Her name was Lily” described the struggles that II Polish Corps led in August 1944 on the Metauro River. The 2nd Polish Corps troops started again on 9 August 1944. The footmen of the 5th End Infantry Division took over the area to the Cezano River and captured Monterado in a night fight. The 3rd Karpack firearm Division, along with the 2nd Armored Brigade, leading dense fighting besides reached the river.

The attack resumed on 19 August 1944. Poland's infantry captured the hills in the suburb of the city of Constantza, and tanks cleared the area all the way to the Metauro River. Polish troops destroyed a number of German units during the three-day battle. However, this success was occupied with Polish blood.

The battles which Polish tanks with German tanks fought on this section of the front were described in their memoirs by Bohdan Tymieniecki:

... Left-wing tank is already entering the ridge with bushes. Isn't he going besides far?

The answer was a cloud of white smoke, a flash and an explosion!

For Christ's sake... it's Wankiewicz! ...

Wankiewicz, specified a wonderful boy. The youngest will be in the First Division of Grenadiers from France. Decorated Croix de Guerre with Citation de l’Armee! ... He couldn't stand it, he was besides hot, he got carried away, he went a fewer meters besides far...

From a close tank, Lesiak jumped and started moving to a burning car. Damn it! He didn't even take 20 steps, I didn't even get to scream. Underneath his feet, a tiny cloud of white smoke and an explosion... until it blew up. He ran and began to throw himself on the ground...

I jumped out of a tank. I ran from behind, no more than 50 steps, the last twelve crawled on the ground. Horrible! Half the back and all the back ripped out, pounds of meat... White membranes and bleeding muscles... He was screaming and screaming.

"Relax, boy." I put my knee on his neck and pushed my head into the ground to hold him. I put the first tube of morphine through the suit advanced in the shoulder and the second in the healthy thigh. Young, strong, must endure. Don't let him get tired now. We're about to get a medic.[1].

These descriptions clearly show the horror of war, pain and suffering associated with war. Life is not a computer game in which a player has thousands of lives. Everyone has 1 life, which is why it is so crucial to calm the hot characters of Poles who are ready to throw Poland into the whirl of war threats for abroad matters. We must return to the memories of those who, without their own fault, were thrown into the midst of the horrors of war. Remember the forgotten fact that wars are caused by politicians and average people are killed.
