Good Friday, which falls on April 18, 2025, is simply a day of peculiar importance for Christians. Many countries around the planet recognise this day as a state vacation and a day off from work. Will this be the case in Poland? Turns out, no.

Working day in Poland
In Poland Good Friday is not a public holiday. This means that most workers will gotta go to work, just like any another working day. Although in the past there have been proposals to make this day off, they have inactive not been implemented. The bill, which entered the Sejm in 2018, has not yet been passed.

Free days in Poland in 2025
In 2025, the following public holidays apply in Poland:

* May 1 – labour Day
* May 3 – Constitution Day May 3
* June 8 – God’s Body
* August 15 – The Rapture of the Blessed Virgin Mary

* December 26 – Christmas (second day)
* December 24 – Christmas Eve (new day off from 2025)

Good Friday in another countries
In Europe, many countries recognise Good Friday as a state vacation and a day off from work. These include:

* Italy
Spain
* Portugal
* Greece
* Austria
* Switzerland

In North and South America, Good Friday is simply a day off in many countries, including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.

Should Poland follow another countries?
Should Poland add Good Friday to the list of days off? This is simply a subject for discussion, which comes back all now and then in the public debates and deliberations of the Sejm. On the 1 hand, Good Friday is simply a day of peculiar importance for Christians and may be an occasion for reflection and rest. On the another hand, this may origin difficulties in the functioning of any institutions and companies.

Additional benefit for employees
any employers decide to introduce a day off on Good Friday as part of interior regulations. Especially those with abroad capital or corporate capital. It's an extra benefit for employees. Furthermore, employers frequently build a affirmative image of the company outside.

What to do to know if you have the day off on Good Friday?
If you want to know if you are free on Good Friday, knock on the staff department or supervisor and ask if your employer is planning to give you the day off. In any government institutions (e.g. officials) may have a reduced working day or even a day off, but this is not a rule. Many Good Friday facilities are a day off from teaching activities, but this depends on the decision of the school administration.
