Songs of "Soldiers Cursed"

"Our rebels, Polish guerrillas"...

Since 1990, many historians and historical publicists have been working to change the black image of "Cursed Soldiers" in the eyes of Poles, i.e. post-war heroes of the armed conflict against the Sovietization of Poland.

This is not an easy task, due to the fact that this image has been building propaganda of russian Poland for years. Countless, high-end, inexpensive books (for example from the series "The Yellow Tiger"), films and school meetings with the "combatants" of the militia, the safety Office, the People's Guards or the People's Army made the tragic heroes of the post-war, hopeless fight for the sovereign existence of Poland - who should stay in our hearts forever - become distant and alien, suspects of everything worst. "Nasi" was Hans Kloss, a associate of the vile russian comic book, and heroes of the lying tale of 4 tankists who - to avoid the problem of the Warsaw Uprising, in case they go to the infirmary erstwhile their division reaches Warsaw. The changes after 1990 were very slow. As a consequence of the "bloodless revolution" at the circular Table, erstwhile communist apparatusists and representatives of the "reasonable opposition". Jaruzelski, Kiszczakami and akin did not want to reconstruct the national memory of people who were tortured in Mokotów, in prisons and basements of UB. After all, in the fight against "reactional gangs" they won Moscow epoles and positions. Moreover, after 1990, the post-Soviet media continued their activity and dry propaganda from the period of the Polish People's Republic, who inactive openly and unpunishedly mock post-war heroes of the fight against russian clique in Poland. It is hard to do otherwise, due to the fact that this russian Poland was their "people's homeland", the guardian of their privileges. The word "soldiers cursed"

As regards officers and soldiers of poakowski formations, NSZ and another post-war anti-Soviet groups first appeared in 1996 as the title of Jerzy Ślaski's book, "Niechuj" (1926-2002). Slaski was a soldier of Major Marian Bernaciak "Orlik" (1917-1946), commander of the "Freedom and Independence" branch of the Association in Lublin, murdered during the UB raid.

Then, in 2002, there was the celebrated album "Cursed Soldiers - anti-communist armed underground after 1944" released by the Warsaw publishing office Volumen, which preserved "Cursed", although it would most likely be better if we called them "Unbreakable" than "Cursed". It was not the Poles who "cursed" them, but russian polytruds. The album released by Adam Borowski was a large event for all Pole who had "Cursed" in his heart. At the time there was a process of annulment of death sentences and prisons issued for thousands of Poles for political reasons, for fighting for the independent existence of the Polish state. The process is possible thanks to the 1991 peculiar Sejm Act. The album came at a good time and played an crucial function in restoring the veneration of "Cursed", despite the fact that the biggest Polish media silenced it or mentioned it occasionally, once. In the introduction, the authors wrote: "The Red Army, entering our lands in January 1944, did not bring Poland freedom or peace. After initially interacting with the Home Army troops against Germany, the NKVD joined the arrests of officers; average soldiers were forced into Berling's troops. In particular, intelligence was exterminated to weaken the Polish component as much as possible. Despite this, the conspiracy, though importantly weakened, continued to defender independence. The opposition against russian domination immediately took the form of an organized armed conflict - the Anti-communist Uprising, which lasted until the late 1940s, and in any areas even much longer. It's been over 50 years, and the cognition of those events is inactive incomplete. In common consciousness, false stereotypes, which are the product of communist propaganda, proceed to repent. Peerelovian pseudohistorians, who for 45 years called this period "the era of the conflict for perpetuation of folk power", contributed to their consolidation. They created an highly false image of the past of the 1940s and 1950s to be found in textbooks, encyclopedias and occasional press articles. This procedure continued until the end of the existence of "people" Poland (...). We realize that we have small chance of changing the existing state of historical consciousness of our fellow countrymen. Exceptions include writers, directors, actors - people creating culture, curious in fighting for the truth, showing heroic attitudes, lying to the past. But in no case does it exempt us from the work to usage all the resources within our scope to change this state of affairs. We owe it to those who, 55 years ago, decided to fight armed forces in defence of the imponderabils, rejected the anticipation of existence under the co-laborators' rule. For us, participants of the anti-communist uprising are heroes".

At the same time, with the album, an exhibition about the "Cursed Soldiers", i.e. the Second Conspiracy of Independence, began to be called post-war opposition against the Sovietization of Poland, setting its time frame: from 3-4 January 1944, erstwhile the Red Army entered again, in pursuit of Germany, into the borders of the Second Republic, until 21 October 1963, erstwhile it died, in a militia raid under Piaski (in Lublin), the last Soldier "Cursed" - Józef Franczak nicknamed "Lalek" from the branch of Captain Zdzisław Broński "Uskok".

The Ballad of Cursed

On the occasion of the exhibition, the ballad "Soldiers of the Curse" was created, written, composed and performed by Michał Czajkowski, singer, poet, composer, writer associated with the Republican League, called the "bard of the Polish right". Leszek Tchaikovsky is not the only bard he has in his heart "Cursed". On YouTube, we will perceive to many songs by Gdańsk bard Andrzej Kołakowski devoted to "Łupaszka", "Ince", "Fire", "Zaprze" and another heroes of postwar Polish drama.

Major and "Inka"

The exhibitions of the Gdańsk branch of the IPN "For the Holy origin - soldiers of Łupaszki" and the Warsaw branch of the IPN - "The Last Forest" and educational actions which match the characters of the Major "Łupaszki" were of large importance in the fight for the "Cursed" honor. For many years they have been writing about "Cursed", based on their own, thorough research, employees of the Warsaw branch of the IPN Dr Tomasz Łabuszewski, Kazimierz Krajewski and Jacek Pawłowicz. Shall we renounce the spirit, the heart, and deny the faith?" This was his and his soldiers' sacred origin for which they fought, regardless of the chances of this fight, due to the fact that the value of the fight lies in the value of the case, not in the chances of victory... Does anyone else realize today?

Historians believe that the breakthrough in learning the past of the post-war opposition of Poles against russian communism will be published 2 years ago by the IPN "Atlas of the Polish Underground of independency 1944-1956" - the first effort in Polish historiography to synthesize or alternatively a list of known facts, illustrated by many photographs and documents. Only that the atlas is comparatively expensive, it can be found in libraries alternatively than in home resources. A fresh initiative for memory of the "cursed" is the CD "We rebels. Songs of the Cursed Soldiers". Andrzej Dziubek is simply a mountaineer from Jabłonka, painter, sculptor, songwriter, musician. His "De Press" was a precursor to Polish punk stone with folk and mountainous motifs so popular today, known to us from the repertoire of the sympathetic and very popular by audiences in different ages of bands "Golec uOrkiestra" or "Brathanki". The most popular songs in Poland "De Press to": "Because I Love You", "The Challah's Messed Up", "Cy bocycie Świnty Ojce", "Cyrwone gorole". Even in the 1980s, "De Press" suspended operations, his leader formed the band "Holy Toy".

Today "De Press" comes back, and how it comes back! The album "We Rebels" may be the best evidence in his achievements if the media aid at least a small in his popularization. The title "Rebelians" is of course our soldiers "Cursed". "De Press" reminds of the songs of forest branches, in the reproduction of texts aid experts of the subject - Kazimierz Krajewski and Tomasz Łabuszewski from the Warsaw branch of the IPN and Grzegorz Wąsowski from the Foundation "We Remember". The dedication of Andrzej Dziubek, leader of the "De Press": "Mother and late Father". All who fought for the freedom and independency of the Homeland".

The CD includes an album containing all sung lyrics along with comments. These texts - regardless of the first performance by De Press - will be sung and distributed by various performers, including amateurs. It's a large advantage of the album "Our Rebels".

The choice of texts begins with the celebrated "Red Plague" by Józef Szczepański "Ziutka" (30 XI 1922 - 10 IX 1944), scout, soldier of the Warsaw Uprising, "Welcome" Red Army from the insurgent barricade a fewer weeks before the soldier's death:

"We are waiting for you, the red plague, to save us from black death."

We're waiting for you, red plague,

To save us from black death,

I wonder if teachers are utilizing this poignant poem to present to the students the drama of Polish "liberation" in 1944? I don't think they know him. besides bad. All the more appreciation for "De Press" and colleagues that they put this text in their album.

"The Song of People Without a Home" is an anonymous song, sung on Podlasie in the wards of the Poak anti-Soviet guerrilla: "What awaits us tomorrow, we do not know"... They didn't know, but they didn't look back and consider the odds. possibly they didn't rather understand, but they felt profoundly what the Vilnius philosopher wrote about: "the fight for the substance of losing in advance is not a meaningless action"...

The title track "We rebels" was created in the branch of the anti-communist partisan AK over Germany! It was the anthem of the ragners, soldiers of Lieutenant Czesław Zajączkowski "Ragner", who did not accept the fresh annexation of the Polish Kreses by the Soviets in 1944. He died with his soldiers on 3 December 1944 in the fight against a powerful (more than a 1000 officers) NKVD peculiar Branch under Nieczycza. "We have cast our own homes, we have cast distant our loved ones, not to compose volumes, nor to win the hearts of the ladies... We don't want hooks or hammers, and we're disgusted by the Germanic enemy. Today, we want to pay off our blood debts for Poland" ...

"The March of the branch of 'Fighting'", or young Major Hieronim Decutowski (1925-1949), tormented in a cruel way by the UB, repeats the ragnerian game about the inevitability of fate, but besides about the work that is above the voice of 'reason': "And they go inactive forward, for specified a fate, and neither regret nor longing, can turn them back from this way, due to the fact that it is the 'Fighting' infantry"...

"The Wind from Turbach" is simply a song by soldiers Joseph Kuras "The Fire" (1915-1947), about which they say he performed a miracle on the Podhale. Thanks to him, after the war, the PPR had to go underground...

The song "We will go faithfully" was treated almost as the anthem of the 5th Vilnius Brigade of the AK Major Sigismund Szendzierz "Łupaszki" (1910-1951). On the occasion of the upcoming 100th birthday of 1 of the most prominent commanders of the Polish anti-Soviet partisan Polish Post Office prepares a commemorative card. Congratulations on your initiative! On the occasion of this anniversary, it would besides be worth reasoning about occasional publications and possibly recalling songs sung in Major's troops. There were many of them, lyrics and notes are known. The album "De Press" featured another track "hubby", borrowed from neighbors from the 3rd Vilnius AK Brigade, Lieutenant Gratian Fróg "Szczerbca" (1911-1951), murdered after the war from the communist "court". It's a song called "On a Fight", called the Vilnius AK Brigade anthem.

"Tough Time" is simply a song sung after russian "liberation" in the branches of the AK in Novgorod and Grodzień. "Oh, God, bring back Poland." specified a coupation in the mouth of border guerrillas whose fight had no chance of success due to Stalin's alliance with our "aliants", awakens even after years deep sadness.

In the troops of Captain Władysław Łukasiuk "Młota" (1906-1949), legend of the anti-communist partisan of Podlasie, among others, an anonymous "Patrol" was sung: "When 1 is killed, another will happen. We walk in scars to the Liberty of the Gates."

The song "Bij bolshevik", referring to the patriotic Polish ethos formed between 1919 and 1920, survived thanks to the poakian soldier Self-defense of Volkovian Land. 1 more song from the faithful to the end of the army. " Beat the Bolshevik in all form, due to the fact that this is your top enemy today. He was the 1 who paved the net of his countless ways with your brothers' bones."

The song "Las Makoshka" resembles the guerrilla branch of brothers Leon and Edward Taraszkiewicz from the territory of Włodawski, known under the pseudonyms "Jastrzeb" and "Żelazna". The authors of the text were "Jastrząb" and the legendary Captain Zdzisław Broński "Uskok" (1912-1949), who burst out with a grenade erstwhile surrounded by UB group.

"Seventh" is simply a song-testament written by a soldier of anti-communist guerrillas in Grodziejczyzna by Józef Stasiewicz "Lonesome". He died in the fight against the NKVD in January 1950!

In 1 of the wards of the "Professors" a touching song "May you pray" was sung, referring to the subject of the separation, so well known even from Polish poesy and painting during the January Uprising.

The album closes Zbigniew Herbert's celebrated poem "Wolka". Herbert's attitude to the tragic soldiers of the post-war partisans was clear: "I felt respect for those who remained faithful to the end, in the woods, without hope (...). Let's not let the dead die." I powerfully repeat these words of the poet and urge the album "De Press" to all fellow countryman.

If you could add a small bit of pain to the honey barrel, I would say that I feel sorry for older listeners, for whom specified a condition of sharp stone is unrepentant and who most likely consider that all songs have the same tune... besides bad they were eliminated from the possible audience. "Pray..." is simply a song sung in the partisan troops of Lublin and Podlasie. Especially popular in the Roman Duma "Romana" branch, which was formed by August 1945 as part of a group of poakowski troops subordinate to Lieutenant/Mjr. The request contained in the title of this text is now as timely as in times erstwhile the text was created and lived, sung by guerrillas to take. It is simply a request for prayer of the fallen and murdered "last forest". And if anyone does not know the words of prayer, let him simply remember these losers, to the end of the faithful, to the end of the brave, to the end of the free.
