Warsaw takes further steps to guarantee greater safety for the residents of the capital. On Thursday, the Mayor of Rafał Trzaskowski announced on platform X "another decisive action" on this issue. His declarations are a consequence to the increase in organised crime in fresh years, connected with the influx of abroad criminal groups to Poland.

Cooperation with the police key to success

Trzaskowski stressed that between 2021 and 1923 there was an increase in organised crime, but thanks to consistent cooperation with the police, this trend was managed to slow down. – I am after a long conversation with the Chief Commissioner of Police [overspector Mark Boroni – ed.]. Contrary to press reports, this process has been clearly hampered," said the president of Warsaw.

Next week, Trzaskowski, together with Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, Head of the Ministry of abroad Affairs and peculiar Services coordinator, is to present details of fresh activities to further improve safety in the capital.

Controversy around cooperation with the police

Trzaskowski's announcement met with criticism from politicians of Law and Justice. Janusz Cieszynski, a PiS MP and erstwhile Minister of Digitization commented: "It was expected to be a separation of uniforms from politics. Meanwhile, the Chief of Police spends time on meetings with a candidate of the Civic Platform, who then supports his authority.

New equipment for the Metropolitan Police

At the end of January, the president of Warsaw handed over fresh police cars and specialized equipment worth PLN 3.5 million. The investment was financed under “Warsaw Protects”. During the press conference, Trzaskowski stressed that the safety of residents is simply a precedence for the city authorities.

Insp. Dariusz Walichnowski, Chief of the Metropolitan Police, expressed his appreciation for the President's actions. – What represents the Warsaw self-government is invariably a immense value. This is awareness of how crucial safety is – he said.
