DENVER- Chicago-based carrier, United Airlines (UA) Flight UA1795, operating from Washington Dulles (IAD) to San Francisco (SFO) on February 16, 2025, diverted to Denver International Airport (DEN) due to an unruly passenger.
The flight crew notified passengers of the diversion after a passenger in the main cabin exhibited aggressive behavior. This incident was exclusively shared with Aviation A2Z by Barbara A Ruddy, a passenger onboard the flight.

United Flight Diverted to Denver
According to FlightRadar24 data, United Airlines flight UA1795 took off from Washington Dulles at 6:04 PM UTC.
After being airborne for over three hours, the flight attendant reported the unruly passenger to the crew, who decided to divert to a nearby airport. The flight landed safely in Denver at 9:35 PM UTC.
Upon landing in Denver, emergency response teams, including fire, rescue, and EMS personnel, and multiple law enforcement agencies, met the aircraft.
The disruptive passenger was extracted from the rear of the aircraft by EMS personnel using a restraining stretcher. Following the passenger’s removal, the flight experienced additional gate delays in Denver before continuing its journey to San Francisco.
United Airlines provided passengers with $20 meal vouchers as compensation for the disruption. Flight attendants later revealed additional details about the incident to passengers in the first-class cabin, though the specific nature of the passenger’s behavior remains undisclosed in official reports.

Similar Incidents
United Airlines flight UA1494 experienced a severe security incident on February 9 when a male passenger attempted to assault a flight attendant while making religious-themed outbursts about Mormons. The Boeing 737, which departed San Francisco International Airport at 11:04 PM, was forced to make an emergency landing in Denver.
The passenger repeatedly moved toward the aircraft’s forward cabin before escalating to a direct physical confrontation with crew members. During the altercation, the individual positioned himself in front of a flight attendant while shouting obscenities and making aggressive physical contact.
Fellow passengers intervened when the situation turned violent, subduing the aggressor as he attempted to assault the flight attendant. Crew members restrained the individual using flexicuffs while the pilots initiated emergency landing procedures.
A United Airlines spokesperson confirmed to PYOK that the diversion occurred due to a “disruptive and aggressive” passenger. Law enforcement officials removed the detained passenger after the aircraft landed in Denver at approximately 2:00 AM Monday.
The incident caused significant operational disruption, with the aircraft remaining grounded in Denver for over five hours. The flight eventually departed at 7:20 AM and arrived at Chicago O’Hare five hours behind schedule.

In a separate incident in July 2023, United Airlines Flight UA20, operating from Houston (IAH) to Amsterdam (AMS), diverted to Chicago O’Hare International Airport after a business class passenger in seat 11G became disruptive over meal service availability.
Internal United communications obtained by aviation watchdog JonNYC classified the incident as a “Threat level 1” disruption, the lowest security designation. Despite the low threat classification, the flight crew initiated fuel dumping procedures before landing at O’Hare.
A MileagePlus elite passenger reported that the disruptive individual appeared intoxicated, suggesting alcohol consumption before the flight contributed to the escalation. The passenger’s extreme reaction to meal availability triggered safety protocols, requiring an unscheduled landing despite the financial implications of an international flight diversion.
The aircraft completed the necessary refueling at O’Hare after removing the disruptive passenger. Flight UA20 ultimately reached Amsterdam approximately three and a half hours behind schedule.
