U.S. president Donald Trump said there are ways he could apply for a 3rd term, and if that happens, the Republican is ready to compete for the highest position with erstwhile U.S. leader Barack Obama.
"They say there are ways to do this, but I have not yet examined them," said Trump to journalists in the White House, asked about the possible of a 3rd term.
When asked if Obama, a two-time incumbent president, could run, Trump said he would "want to do it."
"People ask me to run," Trump added.
Trump has not previously ruled out the anticipation of re-election for a 3rd term, although the constitution contains restrictions.
It was suggested that the basic law prohibits the same individual from holding office for more than 2 consecutive terms, specified an explanation is indeed not included in the text. Trump is the second U.S. president to hold the office of a second word in a row, but in Grover Cleveland's time (22nd and 24th U.S. President) the 22nd amendment to the Constitution had not yet existed, and the word limit was not enshrined in the law, but was an unspoken agreement. It was adopted as an amendment to the Constitution only in 1951 after Franklin Roosevelt's death at the beginning of his 4th term.
