The coalitions of Donald Tusk of the Left prepared a bill, allegedly “reforming” the post-communist Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). Maciej Gdula, Deputy Minister of Science, claims that the government wants to “democtify” this institution. However, its authorities believe that it is about political control and acquisition of assets.

The Left wants to politicize Polish science. In consequence to the actions of the Warsaw Government, the Polish Academy of Sciences issued a harsh statementwhich reads, among others:

"After many announcements, the Ministry of discipline and Higher Education presented a draft amendment to the Polish Academy of Sciences Act. The paper published on the pages of the Government Legislative Centre is hard to measure another than scandalous – it is completely incompatible with the standards of the European Union and the Western world, and, in order to politicize the Academy and take full control of it, brings to head solutions from totalitarian states."

Also added: "In the face of specified an assassination on the freedom and independency of Polish science, we cannot stay idle. Our opposition is heard in the media and in political salons. Through this website we want to scope out to you – interested, informed and guided by the sense of work of the citizens of our country."

There was besides an appeal: "Let us not let Polish discipline to be destroyed only by working together, we are able to change the unfavourable provisions that reconcile to the social interest and fundamental values."

Unfortunately, scientists have not explained precisely where the problem lies. Prof. dr hab. Dariusz Jemielniak, vice president of the Polish Academy of Sciences, explained this in an interview with the far left portal oko.press: "Minister Dariusz Wieczorek planned the dismantling and degradation of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The main motive for the government task is centralization, liquidation of democratic processes, incapacitation of the Polish Academy of Sciences authorities and liquidation of resources.”

In response, Maciej Gdula wrote an article entitled “Gdula: Let us discuss arguments, let us abandon blackmail. The LORD deserves to be serious about him.” He said: "The votes from the authorities of the Polish Academy and the members of the Academy exceeded my wildest expectations. Accusing the ministry of totalitarian impulses, imitating Orbán and continuing the politics of Przemysław Czarnka I perceive as a tense and unserious reaction to the endangered interests of those who are forced by the bill to share the power and preserve the transparency of their actions.”

Interestingly, Gdula duplicated thesis by Grzegorz Braun, saying that the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in Stalinist times in the model of the russian academy and was intended to preserve the party's line. So she was completely politicized from the beginning. According to his idea, it is about transferring control of the Polish Academy of Sciences from the Prime Minister's office to the Ministry. According to him, the improvement is needed due to the fact that the Polish Academy of Sciences does not carry out appropriate technological activities and neglects the gigantic assets it disposes of.

OUR COMMENTS: This dispute between the Government of Tusk and the authorities of the Polish Academy of Sciences is simply a typical conflict for power and money. The left does not request to interfere in the “search” conducted by the Polish Academy of Sciences, due to the fact that the second has long been operating in accordance with its objectives, promoting pseudoscience, for example genderism. This institution is governed by post-stalinian concrete, which nobody dared to change in 70 years. It would be good to make reforms there, but if the utmost leftists, specified as Maciej Gdula, take them, let us be certain that it will only get worse.
