The manager of Modlin Airport reported that work related to the AWOS failure was completed at 19:30. The strategy has been full restored to operation and works correctly – the airport reported in a message published on Facebook. It added that all airport systems were moving properly, and the port was back to average operation.

Earlier on Thursday, the port informed that from 14 a.m. due to the failure of the deficiency of required meteorological data essential for the safe conduct of air operations, all arrivals and departures were temporarily suspended. According to Flightradar24, respective arrivals were redirected to Chopin Airport in Warsaw, respective departures were delayed. The port besides appealed to travellers going to the airport on Thursday to keep track of information on their flights and noted that apart from AWOS, all airport systems and equipment are full operational and functioning smoothly.

The press spokesperson for Polish airports and Chopin Airport confirmed in a comment for PAP that the Warsaw port accepted any of the flights diverted from Modlin and about 600 passengers from Podwarszawskie airport, despite the evidence volume of passenger traffic associated, among others, with the beginning of the advanced vacation season. We will do everything to safely accept as many aircraft as possible and minimize inconvenience for passengers flying to Warsaw – she said.

According to the civilian Aviation Authority, in 2022 Chopin Airport handled over 18 million passengers, which is simply a evidence consequence in the past of the airport. Modlin Airport served over 3.5 million passengers, which means an increase of more than 10% compared to the erstwhile year.

It is worth noting that failure of meteorological systems at airports is not unusual. According to data from the global civilian Aviation Organisation (ICAO), in 2020, more than 1.5 1000 weather systems failed at airports, resulting in more than 10,000 flight delays.

In Poland, Polish airports and the civilian Aviation Authority take action to guarantee the safety of passengers and pilotage. These activities shall carry out regular checks on meteorological systems at aerodromes, as well as training of personnel liable for operating those systems.

It is worth noting that aviation safety is 1 of the most crucial priorities in the operation of airports and airlines. Therefore, it invests in modern technologies and systems that improve the safety of passengers and pilotage. An example of specified investments is the introduction of automatic meteorological reflection systems, specified as AWOS, which supply access to accurate meteorological data in real time.
