On 7 November, the Tanzanian prosecution accused at least 145 people of treason in connection with election protests following the election held on 29 October. The defendants are accused of being active in force during the protests.

AFP reviewed the indictments and stated that in most cases they afraid the desire to "obstruct the 2025 general election to intimidate the executive authority" and "to express specified an intention by causing serious harm to public buildings intended to supply basic services".

The demonstrations took place on the day of the presidential and parliamentary elections, which was October 29, and on the following days. The main reason for the protests was the exclusion by erstwhile president Samia Suluhu Hassan of 2 of her top rivals. Hassan won the election, winning nearly 98 percent of the vote, which, according to the opposition, was a "parody of democracy".

According to the UN, at least 10 people were killed by the safety services during the protests. Chad's main opposition party, in turn, claims that there are already over a 1000 fatalities.

African Union observers felt that the vote "was not in line with the AU rules, the legal framework, another global commitments and democratic election standards". There have been cases, among others, of adding votes and issuing respective ballot cards to any voters.
