The European wellness Centre in Otwock resumed all drug programs on 2 October after the Mazowieckie NFZ granted fresh limits for the 4th 4th of 2026. However, the fund confirms about PLN 9 million of unaccounted for overexecution, and the infirmary warns that without more funding, access to part of the therapy may again be restricted.
Resumed after fresh limits
The European wellness Centre in Otwock reported on Friday 2 October that all drug programs were resumed. The decision was made after the Provincial Branch of the National wellness Fund granted fresh limits for the last 4th of 2026. This is good news for patients who have previously received information about the request to search further treatment in another facilities.
The crisis broke out at the end of the 3rd quarter. The infirmary temporarily limited the qualifying of fresh patients to any of the programs, and according to the doctor's study quoted by Zero.pl the problem besides affected people already undergoing oncological therapy. The facility explained that it had exhausted the limits in the contract and for many months financed part of the treatment from its own resources.
The fresh annex increased the contract for drug programs almost 3 times compared to the period from January to August 2026. The infirmary accepted him, but he reserved that the money allocated may not be adequate until the end of December. Resuming therapy solves the problem today. It does not remove its cause.
Two sides of the dispute over millions
By latest information and statements collected by Zero.pl The ECZ valued unpaid overexecutions in drug programs for 2025 and the first half of 2026 for PLN 11.5 million as at the end of June. The NFZ, on the another hand, stated that over-contracted services worth about PLN 9 million stay to be settled. These are the positions of the parties and not 1 agreed amount.
The Fund besides provided a wider account. According to his data, in 2025 he settled with the ECZ benefits worth nearly 143 million PLN, including over 21 million PLN of benefits rendered over the contract. By September 2026 he was to transfer PLN 99 million to the facility, of which PLN 5.6 million for overexecution. At the same time, the NFZ announced extended monitoring of the implementation of drug programs.
Public control of money is the work of the state. Recent case 59 cases of crossing the queue in Piaseczno showed that the payer must check the way the benefits are provided. However, control must not become a veil for delaying settlements or shifting the effects of the dispute to seriously sick people.
Patient cannot be held hostage by a limit
The spokesperson for the Masovian NFZ Łukasz Jarocki stressed that discontinuation of treatment of a patient subject to the drug programme is unacceptable. At the same time, the Fund considers that programmes are limited, and those whose treatment does not fall within the contract of the institution should be directed to another centres.
On paper, specified a transfer looks like an organizational solution. For the patient, it means calling another facilities, completing documentation and uncertainty as to whether therapy will proceed at the right time. State wellness care is to service the citizen, not to require him to be a negotiator between the infirmary and the payer.
The case in Otwock shows the weakness of the strategy based on 1 dominant payer, limits and later overexecution dispute. Debate on the NFZ monopoly and the possible return of sickness pay So it's not abstract. It concerns whether money actually follows the patient erstwhile treatment is needed.
Safety of treatment is simply a measurement of the state
The most crucial fact remains simple: all programs in the ECZ are back on track. However, it is equally crucial to inform the facility that current limits may not cover the needs of the full 4th quarter. The government and the NFZ are required to explain the discrepancies, check the benefits performed and rapidly pay for those that will be decently settled.
Oncological patients cannot pay wellness for defective contract planning. Poles fund NFZ with a compulsory contribution and have the right to anticipate continuity of therapy. The real test of the state's fitness is not the number of post-crisis messages, but whether or not the patient is getting a drug without a halt and without an administrative walk.
