In an interview with Radio Zet, head of the National safety Bureau (BBN), reserve lieutenant general Dariusz Łukowski, referred to the anticipation of sending Polish soldiers to Ukraine in the future. Although he stressed that specified a script was not planned for today, he did not exclude it in the long term.
General Łukowski pointed out that Poland should not presently send soldiers to Ukraine, but the situation may change with developments.
"For the time being, Poland should not send soldiers to Ukraine. In the future? Can’t be excluded, scenarios are developing’ said the head of BBN.
His message referred to the possible function of Poland in securing a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. However, specified a script would require a thorough political, military and logistical analysis if it were to be implemented.
One of the key aspects raised by the general was the scale of the challenges that would have active the possible deployment of troops to Ukraine. He stressed that the front line now has more than 1,000 kilometres, which makes any stabilization mission require considerable force.
"There will be quite a few force to get involved. If we are talking about a continuation of forces to defend Ukraine, we must consider geography – today's front line is over 1000 km. erstwhile we talk about the form of control, the demarcation line, it requires quite a few commitment erstwhile it comes to the number of armed forces" “General Lukowski said.
This would mean not only the request to delegate a crucial number of soldiers, but besides immense logistical and operational costs. This raises questions about whether Poland is ready for specified an effort, especially in the context of modernization of its own army and expanding defence capabilities in the country.
General Lukowski besides pointed out that possible engagement of Polish troops in Ukraine could be utilized by Russia to build narratives against Poland. In his opinion, all activity of Warsaw in this area would have geopolitical consequences.
"Anyway our participation in a possible operation in Ukraine will besides be played by Russia. It will be a very good reason to enter into agreements between us" – warned the head of the BBN.
This is simply a key argument for opponents of specified a solution. The engagement of the Polish Army in Ukraine could be utilized by Russian propaganda to accuse Poland of escalation of conflict or even for aggressive action against Russia.
In the context of the possible engagement of Poland in Ukraine there were speculations about the position of the United States. However, General Łukowski denied reports that the subject was discussed during talks between president Andrzej Duda and American Secretary of defence Pete Hegseth.
“No, there was no specified conversation. The visit focused more on the future of our military cooperation, US issues in Europe, little on peace talks" Łukowski explained.
His statements indicate that the Americans do not yet have a concrete plan to end the war, which means that discussions on possible stabilisation missions may be premature.
“It follows that cognition is not full in the American administration. It is hard to say whether they improvise or whether president Trump has a concrete plan” – he added.
