Ecological disasters affecting Polish lakes and rivers are becoming increasingly visible, and society is starting to request work and effective action. The phenomenon of mass sleep of fish, akin to the tragedy in Oder in 2022, has become a serious problem that sparks controversy at the highest levels of power. An example of this is the situation on Dzierżno Wielka Lake and in the Gliwice Canal, where – as highlighted during the fresh press conference – the problem of golden algae becomes another informing signal for Polish authorities.

During the Monday press conference, Szymon Hołownia, the leader of Poland 2050 and the current talker of the Sejm, was asked about the ecological crisis affecting Dzierżno large and the Gliwice Canal. The question addressed to him was motivated by the fact that the Ministry of Climate and Environment is directed by Paulina Hennig-Kloska, a close co-worker of Holownia from Poland 2050.

Holown Charges: State piers and negligence of erstwhile governments

In response, Holovnia not only referred to the current situation, but besides pointed to past negligence of erstwhile governments. "It is essential to make it clear – not this government has served the Oder disaster, but those who previously allowed the state piers to be managed by nepots cast there by the erstwhile crew – to flush the brine from large industrial plants" said Poland's leader 2050. In this way he clearly accused the erstwhile ruling squad of ignoring the systemic poisoning of Polish rivers for years, which led to an ecological disaster in Odra.

Hołownia pointed out that the problem of poisoning Oder continued "systemically for years" and no of the earlier power camps responded to this crisis. The current government, according to Holownia, is taking countermeasures to halt further pollution. "Today we are trying to remedy this disaster in the way possible," added the talker of the Sejm.

Reform of Polish Waters and cooperation with the Ministry of Climate and Environment

Szymon Hołownia besides reported that the current government started a thorough improvement of the Polish Water Company. This improvement aims to prevent future ecological disasters on Polish rivers and lakes. "The determination of our government and our ministers on this issue is unwavering. I believe that the effects of this will be seen quickly" declared the Holovnia, at the same time adding that it maintains constant contact with Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska.

However, the Hołównia pointed out that the process of improving the ecological condition of Polish rivers and lakes is long-lasting and takes time. The current government must face long-standing negligence that cannot be corrected overnight.

Action to halt the environmental crisis in the Large Departure

The ecological disaster in Dzierzno Wielka reservoir, where the gold algae bloom crisis has been going on for 2 weeks, shows how hard the task is for the government and liable institutions. The Silesian Voivodeship, Marek Wójcik, during a Sunday press conference reported that 200 people and 17 boats work at the site, which effort to halt the spread of gold algae. "We managed to halt this golden algae from entering Odra and not causing a major ecological crisis," Wójcik reported.

These activities focus primarily on removing dead fish and improving water quality in the Dzerżno Wielka reservoir. To this end, employees of the Regional Water Management Board, fire brigade, fishing defender and Polish Fishing Association are involved.

The Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, who visited the Dzerzhno large reservoir, confirmed that the situation is difficult, but it seems to stabilise. "We must remember that we are faced with adverse weather and hydrological conditions. All this makes the situation on this tank very dynamic, changing from day to day," Hennig-Kloska stressed.

Experiments and preventive actions

One of the activities undertaken by the ministry is technological experiments to halt the further improvement of the ecological crisis. As Minister Hennig-Kloska pointed out, if it were not for these actions, the disaster could have already affected Oder. These words item the importance of immediate preventive action in the face of ecological crises, which can spread to another rivers and lakes in Poland.

Summary

Environmental disasters on Polish lakes and rivers are becoming an increasingly pressing problem, which requires not only immediate action, but besides long-term reforms. The current government, as Simon Hołownia emphasises, is taking steps to improve the situation, but it will require time and systemic changes to repair many years of negligence. work for the current state of the environment lies not only on the side of the current power, but besides on the erstwhile governments, which for years did not respond to informing signals concerning contamination of Polish rivers and lakes.
