SINGAPORE- American Express has confirmed it will discontinue its mobile payment platform, Amex Pay, effective 31 July 2025. This change affects users who rely on QR code-based payments at locations where traditional credit cards aren’t accepted.
Singapore cardholders using Amex Pay at hawker centers and small retailers will no longer be able to earn Membership Rewards or KrisFlyer miles through the platform after the cutoff date, Milelion reported.

American Express has announced that its proprietary mobile payment solution, Amex Pay, will be officially discontinued on 31 July 2025.
Cardholders can continue to use the service for transactions only until 30 July 2025, after which all stored card details will be removed, and both QR and NFC payments will cease to function.
The decision marks the end of a convenient method for earning airline miles or Membership Rewards points at QR code-only merchants. These include hawker stalls, small family-owned shops, and other low-tech establishments where card terminals are not available.
While Amex cards typically offer moderate earn rates, Amex Pay gave users a way to accumulate some points on everyday local purchases.
In an official communication, American Express clarified that Apple users can continue to add and use new cards until the service ends. However, due to a technical issue, Android users can no longer add new cards to Amex Pay and are restricted to cards already linked to their account.

Cardholders should take note of the following key dates and limitations:
- 30 July 2025: Last day to use Amex Pay for any transaction.
- 31 July 2025: Platform deactivation; all card data will be wiped; no further QR/NFC payments allowed.
- Signage Removal: Participating merchant signage for Amex Pay will be gradually removed, leading up to the discontinuation date.
Customers should also be aware that acceptance may decrease over the final month as merchants begin to stop supporting Amex Pay. Alternate options, such as ShopBack Pay or other mobile wallet systems, may need to be considered for QR payments.
