New York police detained respective twelve people who participated in protests to support Palestine on 1 of the campuses of Columbia University in the United States, reported CNN.
The U.S. authorities had previously cut $400 million in subsidies to Columbia University due to reports of harassment of judaic students and inaction of universities.
"Ten people were detained by the fresh York Police Department at Columbia University on Wednesday after a pro-Palestinian protest close the campus's main library," she reported in a report.
According to a tv station, university authorities asked the police to aid safe the Butler University library, to which the protesters tried to access. CNN besides notes with respect to the police that it is inactive unclear what charges will be made against detainees.
Previously, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that US president Donald Trump's administration had offered Columbia University voluntary consent to establish state oversight of the university. If the university refuses to accept an administrative proposal, the dispute will should be resolved in court, which may consequence in even stricter conditions from the government.
The White home had previously demanded from American universities to defend judaic students, threatening to cut funds. Anti-Israeli rallies take place in American universities as the conflict in the mediate East escalates after the attack of the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement on Israel on 7 October 2023 and another Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip.
