A period of magical customs and rites (known from pre-Christian folk culture of Slavs) began preparing for the symbolic banishment of winter, which consisted in melting or burning a straw puppet called Marzanna. This was usually the first day of spring, in the area of the spring equinox falling out (not including the leap year) on March 21. This was done with the slamming of whips, threshing and grouting of rattles, singing and playing on all kinds of instruments[1][2].
The further part of the preparations and magical procedures active welcoming the spring and could have continued even to the first half-night full moon.
