Former policewoman Sylwia Grey invited Sławomir Mentzen on October 3 for a police fitness test after his mockery with officers. Marcin Kierwiński called on the Confederate MP to accept the test. The dispute concerns the recruitment of 150 people in Lower Silesia, including 65 women, and reveals a more serious question about standards of service.
Invitation after net mocking
Sylwia Szary, erstwhile police officer and president of the local board of NSZZ Policemen in Słubice, declared in an interview with Virtual Poland that she would gladly organize a fitness test for Sławomir Mentzen. This was a consequence to the recording of the Confederate Co-President, who was ironic about women admitted to the Lower Silesian Police.
Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński referred to the invitation on 3 October. He expressed hope that Mentzen would try, and his message would be another online attack. It's a continuation. a dispute initiated after mocking police officers, which has been involving government and opposition politicians for 2 days.
Selection facts and equal test principles
The starting point was recruitment to the Lower Silesian garrison. On September 16, 150 fresh officers were admitted: 85 men and 65 women. The image of women in uniform does not represent a fair description of the full recruitment. Earlier DN material has already indicated that the real problem of service efficiency was directed against the incorrect people.
It is besides crucial that a peculiar issue is overlooked in the political turmoil. Official rules for recruitment to the Police foretell the same test for women and men. The candidates execute 4 tests: a three-kilogram throw of the medicine ball, a sit-down in 30 seconds, a run with a change of direction and a run with a moving rack. They gotta pass all test and score at least 32 points.
It is precisely these requirements, training methods and subsequent effectiveness that should be inspected. A Pole has the right to anticipate any officer to be able to act under pressure, regardless of gender. The uniform does not give a discount fare, but the man who assumes it and undergoes the recruitment procedure should not be embarrassed in advance on the basis of the photo.
Security requires serious debate
Mentzen touched on an crucial issue: whether the police are prepared to fight violent organised crime and fresh threats. However, the answer cannot trust on collective mockery from officers. It should be based on clear standards, results of training, equipment and effectiveness of intervention.
The rulers should besides not turn matters into a comfortable spectacle. Kierwiński may score the form of Mentzen's statement, but as head of the Ministry of abroad Affairs is liable for the state of Police. An online duel will not replace information about vacancyes, the quality of preparation or the ability of formation to defend citizens. Respect for uniform and demanding advanced standards They gotta go together.
The stakes for Poles are simple: The police are to be efficient, well trained and capable of effective intervention. sex must not give fora, but it must not service as a convenient excuse to underestimate a man in uniform. A serious right hand should look at your hands and at the same time measurement people according to your competence, not your online image.
