In the face of the Church's crisis, the faithful occupy different positions, the most common being indifference. We're not going to take care of her. any want to be in full unity with the present Magisterium of Pope Francis and so defend all fresh document, even if it is hard to reconcile with the earlier papers of the Holy See. Others want to forcely prove that novelties are compatible with Tradition, and there are those who apply the rule of incontrovertibility and do not accept the relativism of the present pontificate.
Recently, Michael Kmieć’s text “No End of Christianity Will Be” (https://nlad.pl/none-concern-Christianity-not-be/) in which he was rather critical of the traditionalist movement. As he stated:
Traditionalists so powerfully believed in falling (or possibly death) The Church, that they do not announcement any "motions of providence", no strong faith, signs of rebirth (of which the Dutch primacy so beautifully speaks, Cardinal Eijk: "Young Dutch people focus on Eucharistic adoration, love for Mary and the practice of the sacrament of repentance") that erstwhile liberal democracy falls in a visible way, they will inactive stand in 1 line on the Grunwald Fields prepared to defy the attack of atheism and modernism. We remember where the Apostle Thomas was after the Resurrection. Yet, “a wise father brings out old and fresh things from his vault.
He believes that the traditionalist attitude is doomed to failure:
Traditionalists are like Samwise Gamgee and have a function to play. They follow this “Church – in crisis” until they die, but 2 currents dominate it (looking at Polish realities). The first can believe in the death of the Church, seeing Frod flaccid after the venom of Sheloba, that no another sign of God will scope him, and the second can be like Sam to throw himself at the aid of the Frod hanging 1 hand on the Mount of Destiny (this is simply a wonderful task to read the papers of the Second Vatican Council, guided by the hermeneutics of continuity, by the squad led by Paweł Milcark, to whom, unfortunately, a ministerial grant was taken for this purpose; a goal that would be 1 of the most crucial events in the planet of Polish Catholic intelligence).
Eucharistic Congresses and Hermeneutics of Continuity
The editor of Kmieć seems unaware that what attracts young people to contemporary Eucharistic conventions does not should be piety towards the Blessed Sacrament. These gatherings, which take place in stadiums, are very frequently accompanied by attractive music setting, the chance to meet peers, well spent time. All this is not bad, no little these events are very frequently deprived of the sacred dimension of Catholicism, about theology of the Holy Mass Victim. While 1 can actually agree with the author in his assessment of the hermeneutics of continuity, which is more bravado and utopian than based on reliable facts, it is hard to accept the allegation that the remainder of traditionalists believed in the death of the Church and no affirmative signs of rebirth scope them anymore.
Pius X Brotherhood
Traditionalists associated with the Brotherhood of Pius X, but besides mostly with conventional gatherings of priests who owe their origin to Archbishop Lefebvr (the head of the Institute of Good Shepherd accepted priestly ordination at the hands of this bishop), in no way are they laying down weapons, or even at the centre of the fight. FSSPX priests regularly conduct Ignatian retreats for young Catholics, organize pilgrimages of Tradition, supply social media (Akwinata Schools). It is hard to blame them for their defetism and their deficiency of consequence to the Church's crisis.
Of course, there may besides be signs of discouragement and surrender in the traditionalist community. However, they are not dominant in any way. The assessment of Mr. Kmieć's Editor towards Traditionalism is unfair and possibly a better knowing of this environment will change the negative attitude.
Outcome of the crisis
The question remains which way will be best for Catholicism. This is about the direction most appropriate to the situation, not the easiest or the most pleasant. Traditionalism is the way of the cross. It is hard and painful due to the fact that it is not easy to defend orthodoxy to act against the current hierarchy and many authorities. It is not pleasant to drive many kilometres in search of access to the Mass of All Time. actual to Tradition, however, the game is worth a candle.
