President Zelenski again attacked Hungary and the Hungarian government with various accusations at a conference in Brussels. Well, let's face it!
On the grant: Hungary accepted refugees from Ukraine, over 14 million people crossed the border with Ukraine since the beginning of the war, we run 3 Ukrainian schools here, took care of injured soldiers and children, organized recreation camps for more than 10 1000 Ukrainian children in Hungary, trained wellness care staff, rebuilt schools and kindergartens in Ukraine. We were the largest gas supplier in Ukraine, we supply most of the electricity. So far, we have spent EUR 200 million helping Ukrainians in the humanitarian field. It's amazing if it means nothing to you.
In addition, I would like to draw the President's attention to the fact that the grants received from the European Union include Hungarian money. Although we're not happy about it, it's a fact.
I must reject the message that Hungary owes something to Ukraine. Ukraine does not defend Hungary from anyone and nothing. We didn't ask for it, and we won't ask for it. Hungary's safety is guaranteed by Hungarian national defence capabilities and NATO, which Ukraine (luckily) is not a member.
Finally, I would like to draw the President's attention to the fact that the members of the European Union unanimously decide to join the EU. This means that each associate State has a sovereign right to support or argue the recruitment of a fresh member. Hungary does not support and will not support Ukraine's membership of the European Union due to the fact that we would bring war to Europe and take money from Hungary.
We believe that the Union should enter into a strategical partnership with Ukraine, without EU membership. Here's our offer. In the future, we will besides stick to this position due to the fact that we have all right to do so.
