In the Opolskie Chamber of Agriculture, the Polish farmers met with parliamentarians from the region at a Tuesday gathering devoted to the EU-Mercosur agreement. Tomasz Kostuś (KO) assured that there would be no agreement on the contract that beats Poland's food security. The agreement was criticised by the PiS MPs.
Half of 12 parliamentarians representing the Opole Voivodeship in the Sejm came to the gathering with farmers. 1 of the main topics of the gathering was the provisions of EU law on energy transition and green governance and the issue of signing an agreement between the EU and Mercosur countries.
According to the farmers who arrived at the meeting, the abolition of restrictions on imports of inexpensive food from the countries of South America and Ukraine to EU markets will mean the collapse of Polish agriculture. As a reason, they pointed to advanced energy prices linked to EU directives, labour costs and tightening in plant and animal production to which food producers from Mercosur and Ukraine do not gotta apply.
Confederate associate Włodzimierz Skalik noted that, in the case of an agreement with Mercosur, marketplace and fair competition cannot be mentioned erstwhile 1 organization increases production costs and bureaucratic restrictions are imposed, while at the same time allowing the another organization to the agreement to produce goods to be exported to the EU to usage production methods prohibited in the Community. He said that “a script called Polexit should be included, even to put force on those who decide to do so”.
According to Kamil Bortniczuk (PiS), Poland should be in the EU "exactly so long and only erstwhile it pays off". – There are issues of debate, there are economical issues, movement of capital, people, services, safety issues. This needs to be analysed on an ongoing basis. – he noted. In his opinion, in the case of an agreement with Mercosur, the interests of Germany are visible, which want to save their own economy at the expense of agriculture in Poland and France.
Another associate of the PiS Janusz Kowalski powerfully argued against the EU agreement with Mercosur and against Ukraine's accession to the European Union. – This is simply a killing for Polish agriculture and Polish processing – he pointed out.
Paweł Kukiz (Free Republicans) said that “the Ukrainian accession to the EU eliminates Polish agriculture, while the Merocosur agreement eliminates European agriculture. So much for the topic."
Tomasz Kostuś (KO) recalled that although negotiations on the agreement between the EU and the countries of South America were completed in Uruguay, the establishment of the agreement is protested by Poland, France and Italy, among others.
– As long as there is no agreement from all countries, we are talking about a task alternatively than the applicable law. I besides remind you that there was no, there is no, and there will be no agreement on this trade agreement, which beats straight into the food safety of Poland, due to the fact that we know very well that in countries of South America there are no animal and plant production, there are no burdens that European and Polish farmers bear. said Mr Kostuś.
European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen announced on Friday in Montevideo that the European Union and the block of South American states Mercosur had completed negotiations on a free trade agreement after 25 years. The agreement is intended to open the markets of the countries of South America to European technologies. The EC besides hopes that from these countries the natural materials needed to produce clean technologies, including batteries, can be obtained.
However, the agreement raises objections from European farmers who fear the flooding of the EU marketplace by inexpensive agricultural products from countries specified as Brazil or Argentina.
