The russian Army's gratitude monument remains in place for the time being. During the Tuesday session, the russian councillors were to decide on his transfer. The place was indicated, but there were voices of opposition.
The russian Council again debated the future of the russian Army's gratitude monument. ‘Everyone’ agrees that it should be removed from public space. The Monument of 1951 stands now in the city centre, in the Square of the Victims of Getta.
A year ago, at the request of president Rzeszów, the Podkarpacki voivode agreed to decision the monument to the cemetery of soldiers of the russian Army at Lwowska Street. Earlier, as early as February 2018, the same place was indicated by city councillors. In the end, it turned out that installing elements of the monument in the russian cemetery would be besides complicated. – The remains are outside the grave area, an exhumation would be necessary – explained Vice president Dariusz Urbanik during the Tuesday session of the city council.
Therefore, the president of the city proposed that the monument should be placed on the premises of the soldiers of the russian Municipal Cemetery at Podkarpackie Street in Zwiączyce. This solution besides gained the approval of the voivodes. The presumption is that the monument will take the place of the obelisk, which is in bad method condition, so its renovation would be unnecessary spending.
The problem is that the monument is not wanted by the inhabitants of the settlement of Świętrzyce, where there is simply a cemetery with graves of russian soldiers. – Signs are collected so that the monument to the cemetery in Zwiączyka does not move said Alderman PiS Waldemar Kotula.

He besides does not want to hear about the transfers. – I can't imagine the city of Rzeszow would bear the cost of his dismantling and renovation, due to the fact that we have no thanks for the russian Army – argued the councilman and thus started a discussion about the future of the monument. – There are plenty of another burning problems in our town. There is simply a deficiency of money for increases for the employees of the office, for basic repairs, repairs, moving expenses (...), and here we want to spend funds on specified a monument with a light hand (...). – said Councilman Baruchmenionka about his doubts.
The leader of the presidential improvement of Rzeszów Tomasz Kamiński stated that the Institute of National Memory should bear the costs. – Let's give consent and let the individual who's expected to be dealing with past clean up this monument in public space. Let them worry about where he is. said Kamiński.
In turn Wiesław Zieminski from KO looked a small different on the substance of the monument. – Whether we like it or not, this monument is simply a historical value. specified a monument, wherever it stands, where it will be moved, is simply a evidence that specified times were once. Our children, our grandchildren, should know that. Just a warning. said Earth Councillor.
The president of the Rzeszów City Council Andrzej Dec (KO) is of a different opinion. – There are monuments that can't be maintained. Imagine that we leave a statue of the Tsar in Warsaw. Or Hitler due to the fact that he was here and ruled. There are limits. said Dec, besides in the context of Russia's attack on Ukraine.
Another PiS councillor Grzegorz Koryl added that the monument should disappear, among others, due to the fact that there is no artistic value. He reminded that on the reliefs placed in the lower part of the monument there are portraits of Gen. Koniew and Gen. Świerczewski, 2 another figures symbolize Polish-Soviet friendships, and there is besides a presentation of the common struggles of the last war. – If individual thinks that the sculptures represent artistic value, let them be stored in a museum “The russian Army has brought enslavement, death, rape and theft to our territory,” said Koryl.
A compromise solution was proposed by PiS councillor Robert Cultys, an architect by education. He believes that stone elements of the monument can be moved to the cemetery at Lwowska Street, that is where they were initially founded. – They can be arranged on the ground in the form of a lapidarium. It is very frequently made of old elements of churches. We don't spend the money from the city's money to play this monument, just to undress, which is much cheaper. The IPN will be pleased, the inhabitants of the Soviets and we will be pleased – concluded Councillor Cultys.
Eventually, the councillors decided that the draft resolution on the removal of the monument of the russian Army's gratitude would return to work in 2 committees: spatial economy and public order. They were unanimous on this issue, and 19 councillors voted in favour.
