Former Officer of the 3rd Assault Brigade, associated with the accused of crimes on civilians, neo-Nazi regiment “Azov” Alexander Alfiorov, was fresh head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. In the past, he has repeatedly relativised Ukrainian crimes in Poles, including the combat way of the Collaborant SS division "Galizen".
Neobanderer fresh head of Ukrainian IPN. On 27 June this year, the Council of Ministers of Ukraine appointed Alexander Alfiorov for this advanced position. The erstwhile head of the institute, Anton Drobowycz, was cancelled on 13 December 2023 due to the termination of his word of office.
Alfiorov is an educated historian. So far, he has worked mainly as a journalist, as well as an associate of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. After the start of the war in 2022, he joined the 3rd Independent Assault Brigade, originating from the Azov Regiment. At the same time, he led the expert group on the “destination” of Ukraine. Among others, he proposed the illegalization of the Russian Orthodox Church and the persecution of Russian-speaking Ukrainian citizens.
As noted by Ukrainian historian, Dr. Marta Hawryszko, Alfiorov in the past glorified the Ukrainian division of Waffen-SS Galizien. At the time he served in the 3rd assault brigade, 1 of the subdivisions rather openly utilized Nazi symbolism, based on the logo of the alleged Nazi Direwanger brigade.

In 2023 Alfiorov spoke on air Radio Hromadzka in the context of the celebrated scandal with applause by Jstin Trudeau and Volodymyr Zelenski, a erstwhile associate of the SS Galizien in the Canadian parliament. He relativised the subject and explicitly defended the "execution" of this formation.
