U.S. president Donald Trump considers Turkish leader Recep Erdogan to be his friend and future ally at global level — stated chief advisor to Erdogan Çagri Erhan in an interview with American magazine Newsweek.
"Mr. Trump calls him a friend. He wants him to become a key player both in the region and in the planet to cooperate with the United States under Trump administration," he said.
The advisor noted that both countries could benefit from interaction in the fresh era.
Earlier, on his journey to the mediate East, Trump noticed that he had excellent relations with Erdogan and understood each other.
Over the past week, the Turkish leader has shown that he is an crucial player on respective geopolitical fronts. A fewer days after the end of the 40-year stalemate with the Kurdistan Workers organization (PKK), Erdogan, according to Trump, persuaded him to abolish sanctions against Syria, and even met the country's interim leader Ahmad al-Sharaa during his visit to Saudi Arabia. Turkey besides mediates talks between Europe and Iran on atomic weapons and has made diplomatic efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
