W Zimbabwe has reported a dramatic increase in malaria. In the last 17 weeks, the number of cases has increased by 180 percent compared to the same period last year, and the mortality has increased by 218% – the Ministry of wellness and kid Welfare alarms.
Dramatic Statistics
According to authoritative data, by the end of the first week of May 2024 was registered 21 309 cases and 45 deaths. At the same time in 2025, these figures were already 59,647 cases and 143 fatalities.
Causes of the epidemic
The main culprit is weather. Today, South Africa continues peak rainy season, and dense rainfall combined with advanced temperatures created the perfect conditions for the reproduction of mosquitoes that carry malaria.
