Israel will gotta fight Hamas for a long time

French president Emmanuel Macron said that if Israel is determined to completely destruct the Palestinian Hamas movement, the war would take 10 years and called on the Israeli authorities to more precisely specify their goal in conflict.

"I believe the Israeli authorities will now gotta specify their goal in a more precise way.... Complete annihilation of Hamas – what is it and does anyone think it is possible? If this (is the goal – ed.), then the war will last 10 years... So we request to clarify this goal," said Macron, speaking at a press conference on the margins of the UN Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai.

The French president besides stressed that "the demolition of the full territory or the bombing of all civilian potential" is not a "good consequence to a terrorist group".

The truce between Israel and Hamas expired on Friday morning, and its extension was not officially announced. The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) stated that the Palestinian Hamas movement broke a break in the war effort and opened fire on Israeli territory, and the Israeli military resumed the fight against the Palestinian movement in the Gaza Strip.

Israel and the governing Gaza Strip Palestinian Hamas movement, during the Qatar mediation, reached their first agreement on 22 November since the escalation of the conflict on 7 October: the parties agreed to a four-day suspension of war effort to exchange dozens of hostages and arrested. The four-day truce began on 24 November at 07:00 local time and was extended twice, by 2 and 1 days.

On October 7, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip as part of Operation Al-Aksa Flood, announced by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement. Organization fighters then infiltrated border areas in confederate Israel, where they opened fire on both military and civilian, and besides took over 200 hostages. In Israel, according to the latest figures of the authorities, about 1.4 1000 people were killed, including civilians, soldiers, foreigners and workers, and more than 5 000 were reported injured.

In response, Israel's defence Force launched Operation Iron Sword against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Within a fewer days, the Israeli military took control of all settlements close the Gaza border and began raiding facilities, including civilian ones, in the Zone. Israel besides announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip: supplies of water, food, electricity, medicines and fuel were halted.
At the end of October, an Israeli enclave operation began. The city of Gaza was surrounded by Israeli land forces, and the enclave was actually divided into the confederate and northern parts.

The number of people killed in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 16,000 since the beginning of the Israeli attacks, more than 35,000 have suffered. Hamas claimed that there were about 200-250 hostages in the Gaza Strip. At the end of the ceasefire, Israeli authorities reported that 126 Israelis and 11 foreigners remained hostages of Hamas, 110 kidnapped were released.
