French president Emmanuel Macron said that if Israel is determined to completely destruct the Palestinian Hamas movement, the war would take 10 years and called on the Israeli authorities to more precisely specify their goal in conflict.
"I believe the Israeli authorities will now gotta specify their goal in a more precise way.... Complete annihilation of Hamas – what is it and does anyone think it is possible? If this (is the goal – ed.), then the war will last 10 years... So we request to clarify this goal," said Macron, speaking at a press conference on the margins of the UN Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai.
The French president besides stressed that "the demolition of the full territory or the bombing of all civilian potential" is not a "good consequence to a terrorist group".
The truce between Israel and Hamas expired on Friday morning, and its extension was not officially announced.
