Members of the U.S. legislature from both parties have threatened the global Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague with retaliation from the U.S. if the court issues arrest warrants for high-ranking Israeli officials and government is already being drawn up in this respect – reports Axios. This position clearly shows that the U.S. legislature supports the crimes of genocide committed by the Israeli army on Gaza residents.

"Chairman of the abroad Affairs Committee of the home of Representatives Michael McCaul (the Texas Republican) told Axios that he expected the version of Senator Tom Cotton's Act (the Arkansas Republican) to impose sanctions on ICC officials active in investigations against the US and their allies, but he added, "We hope that this will not happen," the portal said.

The publication shows that the Democrats have besides expressed discontent with the ICC's actions. And so, fresh York Congressman Richie Torres and Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman criticised possible warrants, with Torres calling for "serious consequences from legislature and President" Joe Biden.

The Times has previously reported that the ICC is preparing to issue warrants for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli defence Minister Yoava Galanta and IDF Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi in connection with charges against Israel for war crimes against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Netanjahu said he would not let the ICC to "distort Israel's inherent right to self-defense". He expressed concern about the possible issuing of arrest warrants for Israeli officials and military officers, adding that this would “create a dangerous precedent”.

According to the Bloomberg press agency, the United States and their allies fear that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could be threatened if the ICC issued arrest warrants for high-ranking Israeli officials in connection with Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.

On 7 October 2023. Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. Then the militants of the Palestinian Hamas movement infiltrated border areas, opened fire on troops and civilians, and took over 200 hostages. According to the authorities, about 12,000 people died.

Israel's defence Forces launched Operation Iron Sword in the Gaza Strip, including attacks on civilian targets. Israel announced a complete blockade of the enclave: supplies of water, electricity, fuel, food and medicines were halted. According to the Ministry of wellness of the Gaza Strip, the number of people killed exceeded 34,000 and over 77,000 suffered.

Gaza Strip has been effectively divided into the confederate and northern parts and Israel is preparing for a land operation in Rafah, which is considered the last bastion of Hamas.
