In February 2025, a violent attack occurred at 1 of the Katowice gyms. A 21-year-old Nigerian citizen attacked another man by hitting him with a training hammer. The case raised large controversy, especially erstwhile the prosecutors dismissed the proceedings due to the criminal's insanity. It now appears that this decision has been contested and the investigation will continue.
Insanity or negligence? Prosecutor's Office changes its mind
Initially, the prosecution felt that the perpetrator could not be held liable for his actions due to the fact that at the time of the attack he was influenced by a mixture of marijuana and ketamine. The experts stated that “he was incapable to admit the meaning of his act nor to guide his course.” On this basis, the proceedings were dismissed.

"The prosecution, in re-examined the case, considered it appropriate to supplement the evidence with a view to a comprehensive explanation of all circumstances. The proceedings shall stay in advancement and shall proceed in accordance with applicable law."
How did the attack happen?
According to witnesses and media reports, the assailant took drugs before entering the gym. Surveillance footage and evidence show that the man was aggressive and uncontrolled. The police who arrived had to usage force to overpower him.
The injured was transported to a hospital, but, fortunately, his life was not in danger. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
What's next on the case?
The decision to resume the investigation means that the prosecution will re-examine the evidence, including the intellectual wellness of the perpetrator and the circumstances that led to the attack. Will he yet be held accountable? The issue is emotional and gives emergence to discussions about safety in public places.
