The imposition of 1 political opinion and the abolition of the right of veto for each European country will lead to the end of the European Union, says Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"The imposition of a binding political opinion, the abolition of the right of veto, the punishment of the sovereign and the brave, the fresh iron curtain, the putting war ahead of peace – this is the end of the pan-European project. It's a departure from democracy. This is simply a trailer for a immense armed conflict," Fico said, speaking on Thursday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest.
He criticised the European Union for its reluctance to take a peaceful position in the conflict in Ukraine. Instead, according to the Slovak Prime Minister, the main players in the European Union criticise another countries for their views, which disagree from the majority. Fico recalled that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz threatened Slovakia and Hungary with EU sanctions for their sovereign views.
Earlier, Merz, in an interview with the WDR, asked about the countries visiting Moscow on 9 May contrary to the EU's position, said that the EU would not be able to avoid a conflict with Hungary and Slovakia if they continued their current course of vetting pan-European initiatives. Merz cited, among another things, the suspension of EU backing as a "lever mechanism" for both countries.
