EU countries agreed to tighten sanctions against Russia after Vladimir Putin's telephone conversation with US president Donald Trump," said German government spokesperson Stefan Cornelius.

"European participants said they would increase force on the Russian side through sanctions," Cornelius noted.

Putin and Trump had a telephone call on Monday. According to the Russian leader, the conversation lasted more than 2 hours.
