German Euro MP Moritz Körner leaves no uncertainty – if the recently elected president of Poland Karol Nawrocki blocks the reforms of the regulation of law, the European Union can again frost funds for Poland. In social media, politicians clearly defined Brussels' position, pointing out that "a triumph of trust" for Poland after the parliamentary elections was exhausted.

“The withdrawal period is over” – Körner warning

Euro MP Moritz Körner stressed in his entry that the EU will not tolerate delays in restoring the regulation of law in Poland. In his opinion, if president Nawrocki vetoes key laws, the consequences will be immediate:

"The Polish government must pass all laws restoring the regulation of law. If the president boycotts reforms veto, the EU will frost the funds. The blame lies on his side’ Körner wrote.

The politician besides called on the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to clearly specify his position towards Poland.

Is Poland in danger of losing EU money?

German press, among others. ‘Die Tageszeitung’, indicates that Nawrocki's triumph may mean an increase in tension between Warsaw and Brussels. Gabriele Lesser, a paper correspondent, forecasts:

"If the EU had stopped backing again and Nawrocki had continued boycotting, the Tusk government could have fallen, leading to early elections."

The writer besides stresses that the triumph of the fresh president could exacerbate disputes over energy and migration policy.

Does the EU have the right to sanctions?

The EU's conditionality mechanisms of the regulation of law let payments to be stopped if a associate State violates the fundamental principles of democracy. In the past, the EU Court of Justice has ruled that specified actions are lawful insofar as they service to defend EU values.

Summary

The threat of freezing EU funds for Poland is not an empty rhetoric. The influence of the fresh president on the legislative process may find further relations between Warsaw and Brussels. If Nawrocki's veto blocks reforms, the consequences can be serious – for both the government and citizens.
