BENGALURU- In an unexpected turn of events, an Emirates Airline (EK) A380 aircraft operating flight EK342 from Dubai Airport (DXB) diverted to Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) on January 24, 2025.
The aircraft, registered as A6-EOU, was on its way to its destination Kuala Lumpur (KUL) when a medical emergency onboard prompted the flight crew to declare an emergency.
Emirates A380 Diversion
The aircraft involved is Airbus A380-800 aircraft, which is the world’s largest passenger aircraft. The aircraft departed Dubai International Airport at 11:27 AM GST. The flight departed with a delay of 47 minutes from its scheduled departure of 10:40 AM GST.
Approximately 3 hours and 25 minutes into its journey, the aircraft made a sudden right turn. The flight was over the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Pilots initiated descent toward Bengaluru.
The aircraft safely landed at Bengaluru Airport at 4:22 PM IST. The aircraft landed after about 25 minutes after the decision to divert was made.
Medical Emergency
The diversion was due to a medical emergency on board. Emirates is known for its robust safety protocols and passenger welfare measures. While specific details about the person’s condition remain undisclosed, such diversions underscore the airline’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing health and safety above all else.
