In fresh days, the subject of the migration pact has again been at the centre of the Polish policy. Prime Minister Donald Tusk assured that Poland would not implement any provisions of the migration pact, but Euro MP Anna Bryłka accused him of manipulating information. Are we truly dealing with misleading public opinion?
Anna Bryłka: Tusk ignores key facts
Anna Bryłka, MEP of the Confederate, expressed criticism of Prime Minister Tusk's words in a conversation with Radio Wnet. In her opinion, the head of government deliberately omitted crucial details about the migration pact. There's nothing to implement here. These are the legal acts that apply straight – emphasised Bryłka. This means that these provisions will enter into force regardless of the actions of the Polish government.
The part recalled that the migration pact was a package of 9 regulations and 1 directive which were voted in the European Parliament in the spring of 2024. The Council of the European Union approved these acts in May 2024. "It's not a substance of choice, it's a substance of applicable law," she added.
Ukrainians' reception and the Migration Pact: Does it matter?
The Confederate politician besides pointed out that the fact that Poland accepted millions of refugees from Ukraine does not affect the application of the migration pact. “Many of them have already returned to their homeland or gone to another Western countries,” she noted. In addition, a fresh yearly solidarity pool will be set each year, which will find the contribution of individual associate States to the solidarity mechanism. The number of asylum applications lodged in a country will be a key factor. “And here Poland is in the tail,” said Bryłka.
Janusz Lewandowski: The Pact will enter into force in 2026
Meanwhile, Euro MP Janusz Lewandowski confirmed that the migration pact would enter into force in mid-2026. "The countries that have gathered to block represented only 14 percent of the EU's population, so the pact will enter into force," said Lewandowski on RMF FM. However, the politician maintained Prime Minister Tusk's communicative that Poland would not accept more refugees due to migration force from Ukraine.
– We will open for ourselves the gate that Tusk had already announced in the presence of Ursula von der Leyen. As a country under migration pressure, we will not accept relocations from another countries," Lewandowski added.
Prime Minister Tusk: Poland will not bow under pressure
On 4 February, Prime Minister Donald Tusk assured that Poland would not implement the migration pact, and the decision on this substance is definitive. – If individual in Europe thinks that Poland should take on another burdens, no substance who says it, I will say that Poland will not implement it. End, period," said Tusk in Gdańsk in the presence of the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Summary: Does Poland have a choice?
Although Prime Minister Tusk assures that Poland will not implement the migration pact, the Euro MPs point out that these rules apply straight and enter into force independently of the position of the Polish government. Anna Bryłka emphasizes that Tusk ignores key facts, while Janusz Lewandowski points out that the pact will enter into force in 2026.
Does Poland have a real impact on the improvement of EU migration policy? It seems that not only words but besides global action will be decisive in this regard.
