Drivers who do not comply with the halt rules with the engine on shall be subject to advanced financial penalties. In Poland, in a built-up area, leaving the engine moving at remainder for more than 1 minute is prohibited and may consequence in a mandate of PLN 100. In case of reciprocation or another infringements, the punishment may increase even to PLN 1000.
Why specified regulations?
Provisions are intended to reduce exhaust emissions and noise in cities. Long-term engine operation at the halt contributes to air contamination and disturbs the peace of the residents.

Exceptions to the rule
There are situations where a halt with the engine moving is allowed, e.g. erstwhile the vehicle performs road activities or while waiting for a light signal. Examples of penalties for infringements
- Stop with engine moving over 1 minute: mandate PLN 100.

To avoid fines and take care of the environment, it is recommended to:
- Switching off the engine during a long halt in the built-up area.
- Snow removal and Interior heating without leaving the engine on at the stop.
- Compliance with traffic rules concerning the operation of the engine at the stop.
Failure to comply with the provisions on engine operation at a halt may lead to high financial penalties. Drivers should be aware of the rules in force and adapt their road behaviour to avoid unnecessary expenditure and contribute to improving urban air quality.
