Supporters of U.S. president Donald Trump flood the State Department, and competent veterans of diplomatic service are subjected to “pure” – reports Financial Times.
The publication notes that erstwhile a little-known official, Lew Olowski, was appointed to 1 of the highest positions in the State Department last month, acting as Director-General of the abroad Service, officials in Washington DC were stunned. The paper believes that the advantage of his choice was membership of the conservative organization Ben Franklin Fellowship (BFF), which has made tremendous advancement since Trump's return to the White House.
"Financial Times has identified 11 BFF members who have taken advanced positions in the State Department since Trump's inauguration," writes the newspaper. In addition to Olowski, the paper specifically points to Christopher Landau, who became Deputy Head of the State Department in March.
The publication calls it a "strange achievement" for an organization that was founded only last year. According to 1 official, the characteristic feature of many promoted BFF members is their support for Trump's programme. any officials call the Ben Franklin Partnership "the deep MAGA state (Make America large Again – ed.)".
The publication recalls that the White home message following Trump's inauguration stated that the policies and actions of the State Department should be adapted to policies that put US interests first. However, the rotation process began even before Trump took office for the second time, erstwhile his transition squad asked many elder diplomats to resign.
"American diplomats say privately that experienced abroad service officers are now retiring or mass resigning," the publication says.
