According to ZUS data, last year the number of applications for incapacity for work decreased by little than 1% compared to 2023. Most of specified cases have late been registered in the Silesian, Mazowieckie and Wielkopolska Provinces. In 2024, more than 46 1000 decisions were made granting the above-mentioned witnessing and more than 27 1000 were refused. The second thus represented 37.1% of the total. any experts argue that the number of specified rulings is comparatively advanced and that many people gain their rights in court.
According to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) data, in 2024 the number of registered applications for disability pension was 86.8 thousand. That's 0.8% little than in 2023, erstwhile there were 87.5 thousand. In turn, comparing last year's data with those for 2022, we see an increase of 2.4%. In 2022, 84.8 1000 specified cases were found. By comparison, in 2021 there were 87,7 1000 applications, and in 2020 there were 83,9 thousand.
– Applications for a pension do not apply solely to people who lose their wellness due to accidents at work or occupational diseases. These are besides applicants with congenital wellness problems. People with limited work opportunities as a consequence of their own intellectual problems or an accident caused by them, e.g. a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, are besides trying to supply services, says Anna Maria Dukat, BCC expert on disability and elder policy.
In turn, Dr Marcin Wojewódka, president of the Pension Institute, points out that during the period analysed, the number of applications remained stable. According to the expert, this means no abrupt changes in the wellness of our society and besides in working conditions. There has been no affirmative or negative impact on the number of applications in fresh years. This situation is neutral for the labour market. It does not origin e.g. any exodus, which was visible in 2017 with the simplification of the retirement age.
– We analyse the data from the Social Insurance Institution, but the case law for pension purposes is not only granted by this insurance institution. There are besides KRUS – for farmers and their families, the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Interior and Administration – for people employed in uniform services. However, only ZUS hires a full-time doctor contract," added BCC expert.
Looking at the data from 2024, the most applications for disability pension were registered in the Silesian Voivodeship – 11.6 thousand. We're inactive in line. Mazowieckie – 10.2 thousand, Wielkopolska – 9.4 thousand, Małopolska – 6.9 1000 and Kujawsko-Pomorskie – 6.4 thousand. On the another hand, at the end of the ranking 1 can see the Opole – 1.3 thousand, Podlaski – 2.2 1000 and Świętokrzyskie – 2.5 thousand.
– It is hard to indicate 1 reason why there are the most and least conclusions in these voivodships. Workers and businesses change their whereabouts. Many companies rapidly build and close their business. In Silesia, economical life revolves around mining, but besides the population density is not small. In the Mazovian state economical improvement flourishes close the capital and there are many inhabitants. In turn, manufacture inactive works well in the western part of the country. In 2024, the number of decisions granting a pension for incapacity for work amounted to 46,2 thousand. In 2023 it was 44.2 1000 and 27.4 1000 respectively (61.7% – 38.3%), and in 2022 it was 43 1000 and 27.1 1000 (61.3% – 38.7%). As Dr Marcin Wojewódka convinces, the number of negative decisions is comparatively high. However, last year's level does not disagree importantly from erstwhile years' practice. According to the president of the Pension Institute, this indicates a reasonably tight strategy for granting pensions, and any may even find that there are comparatively restrictive criteria for granting benefits. The expert adds that we do not know the statistic on attempts to extort benefits, but unfortunately there will be black sheep in each flock.

That's why many people get their rights in a court of law, says a BCC expert.
The data available besides shows that in 2024 there were 13.3 1000 more applications for disability pension than the decisions were issued on this issue. Dr. Wojewódka emphasises that the process of granting this benefit is not the easiest. This is not a visit to examine the sight for obtaining corrective glasses, so it must continue. In the expert's opinion, the above data may indicate any hold or even delay. The situation may arise from a limited number of jurisprudences or a long medical analysis process.
