In the Sejm, there was a request for the Court of State of Adam Glapiński, president of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). This proposal is simply a signal of increasing political and economical tensions in the country and reflects the desire to research certain actions and decisions at the central institution of the bank.

Application for a Court of State for the president of the NBP

The proposal, signed by a group of Members, focuses on charging only Adam Glapinski, president of the NBP. Although any of the allegations relate to activities undertaken in cooperation with another board members and the Monetary Policy Council, applicants focus on the president of Glapin. This proposal responds to the actions taken by the NBP president and raises quite a few controversy.

Prime Minister Tusk's announcement

Prime Minister Donald Tusk had previously announced that the submission of an application to bring prof. Adam Glapiński to the Court of State would be the fulfillment of 1 of his party's electoral promises. This is simply a step that has been repeatedly signalled by representatives of the ruling coalition and is now becoming a reality. The decision whether to initiate proceedings belongs to the Sejm Constitutional work Commission.

Charges against Glapinski

The application for Glapinski to be brought before the Court of State is based on eighteen points of appeal. These include access to key information on the bank's activities, the NBP's acquisition of bonds in 2020 and the granting of bonuses to the president himself.

First of all, the main allegation is that the NBP president should be accused of failing to fulfil his statutory tasks and that he should focus on organization activities. These allegations are serious and require detailed examination.

Glapin defence and reaction

Adam Glapiński denies all allegations made by applicants. He claims that putting him before the Court of State would be detrimental to Poland. He assures that he has nothing to hide and is willing to defend his actions. However, this conflict raises serious concerns about the stableness and independency of banking institutions.

Sending a letter to Prime Minister Donald Tusk to resolve a conflict that may harm the global image of Poland suggests a willingness to resolve the situation politically and institutionally responsible.

Procedures for the Court of State

The process of putting the president of the NBP before the Court of State requires detailed passage through legal procedures. The proposal must be supported by a adequate number of Members and then the Sejm Constitutional work Committee must decide to initiate proceedings. Only after these steps can we anticipate further action.

Both the proceedings and possible decisions regarding the appointment of the president of NBP to the Court of State will have crucial consequences for Polish policy and financial institutions. Discussions on this issue are expected to proceed for weeks to come and possibly even months.
