Imagine that in the old papers of your parents or grandparents you come across a tiny book. It turns out that it is simply a relic from the times of the Polish People's Republic – a prepayment book for the car. If individual always paid for it, but didn't get the car they wanted, they could get any good compensation. The amount is up to PLN 26 000!
In the times of the Polish People's Republic, owning a car was a luxury. To become a happy owner of Fiat 126p (the celebrated Maluch) or FSO 125p (the large Fiat), it was essential not only to be patient but besides to systematically put money on a peculiar prepayment book.
The strategy worked like this: certain amounts were paid for the book, and erstwhile the expected minute of receipt of the car arrived, the difference to the full price of the vehicle was added. Unfortunately, not everyone has seen it. The body transformation made many people, despite the payments, not receiving the dream car. Fortunately, the Polish state did not forget about those who for years patiently put on 4 wheels. The Ministry of Finance systematically pays compensation to holders of unused pre-payments for cars.
What are the compensation amounts?
The amounts are awesome – presently you can get PLN 18,654 for the undelivered Malek or as much as PLN 26,435 for large Fiat. These are sums for which you can easy buy a beautiful decent second-hand car, and even new, budget models of any brands.
How do I get compensation?
To claim compensation, you must first find the old prepaid book. It's a key paper we can't get anywhere without. If we're fortunate and find her somewhere in the home archives, the next steps are simple.
Just go with the book and ID to the PKO BP branch. It is the only bank eligible to pay these compensations. Importantly, money can be claimed only by the individual who actually paid for the book and did not receive the car. If the first owner is already dead, unfortunately his heirs will not be compensated. The Ministry of Finance shall update the compensation all quarter. The current amounts will be paid by the end of June 2024. Then the ministry will supply fresh sums, valid in the next quarter.
It is worth following these updates, as the amounts of compensation increase from year to year. Only a fewer years ago it was possible to get “only” respective 1000 zlotys, now it is over 26 1000 for large Fiat. Who knows, possibly in time it'll be the equivalent of a brand-new car? Although more than 30 years have passed since the end of the Polish People's Republic of Poland, there are inactive people in Poland who can claim compensation for underdelivered cars. The “Fact” diary estimates that there may inactive be about 200 specified fortunate people.
This is the last chance for those who have patiently put on 4 wheels for years, and destiny has thwarted their plans. Now, thanks to compensation, they can realize their car dreams, even if much later than they planned.
