Accident during Operation Safe Podlasie: 2 injured soldiers

The Military Police are investigating an accident that occurred during a change of post under Operation Safe Podlasie. 2 soldiers were injured as a consequence of uncontrolled gunfire, reported the Operations Command of the Armed Forces (DORSZ) types on platform X (formerly Twitter).

Accident details

The incidental took place on Tuesday evening, close Nowa Łuka, Podlaskie Voivodeship. According to DORSZ, the lives of wounded soldiers are not at risk. This information was besides confirmed in an interview with the Polish Press Agency (PAP) spokesperson for Operation Safe Podlasie, Colonel Kamil Dołęzka. "More information will be available on Wednesday," he added.

"During the transfer of arms, during the shift of the station, uncontrollable shots of service weapons were fired, resulting in a soldier of 1st tank battalion in Żurawica being shot in the leg, from the 18th Mechanized Division," says the authoritative release. The injured individual was immediately given first medical aid, after which he was transported to the infirmary in Białystok by the Air Rescue chopper (LPR). The condition of a soldier is described as stable, and his life is not in danger.

Second wounded soldier

DORSZ besides reported a second wounded soldier of the same unit who suffered finger injury. He was transported to a infirmary in Hajnówka, where he was given specialist medical assistance. Both soldiers' lives are not at risk, and the accident was random. The families of the victims were immediately informed of the incidental and received intellectual care.
