During the current election run period, candidates for the office of president of the Republic of Poland are seeking as much support as possible from voters. 1 of the candidates is Sławomir Mentzen, who represents the Confederation. In order to scope fresh electorate groups, Mentzen decided to cooperate with Father Tadeusz Rydzyk, a well-known editorialist and founder of Radio Maryja.
According to the latest polls, Rafał Trzaskowski, a candidate supported by the PO, would gain 33.2% of the vote, while Karol Nawrocki, a candidate supported by the Law and Justice, could number for 25.3% of the vote. Sławomir Mentzen, in turn, could get about 18% of the vote. These results make the Confederation strive to gain the support of fresh electorate groups, including the elder electorate, who traditionally supports Law and Justice.
Establishing cooperation with Fr Tadeusz Rydzyk would be a key component of this strategy. The anointing from Fr Rydzyk would be a large success for Sławomir Mentzen, due to the fact that Radio Maryja has large influence among the older generation. As stressed in the article “Newsweek”, Sławomir Mentzen wants to gain the trust of seniors who have so far associated the Confederation with Janusz Korwin-Mikke and Grzegorz Braun.
Both politicians have extremist views that were not always in line with Father Rydzyk's values. Therefore, the Confederacy, in order to scope pensioners, gives out newspapers with a subject close to the older generation. However, it may inactive not be adequate for their candidate to be in the second circular of elections.
In order to gain the support of the elder electorate, Sławomir Mentzen must appear as a candidate who understands the needs and values of this generation. Cooperation with Fr Tadeusz Rydzyk could be a large asset for him, due to the fact that Radio Maryja has large influence among the older generation. We will see if this strategy will prove effective and if Sławomir Mentzen will be able to gain the support of the elder electorate.
According to the Central Statistical Office, Poland has about 7.5 million people aged 65 and over. This group of voters is very crucial due to the fact that it can affect the result of the elections. Therefore, candidates for the office of president must concentrate on gaining the support of the elder electorate.
It is worth noting that the Confederation is 1 of the least known political groups in Poland. According to the Social Opinion investigation Centre, only 12% of Poles know what a Confederation is. Therefore, Sławomir Mentzen must concentrate on gaining the support of fresh electorate groups and showing himself as a candidate who understands the needs and values of different social groups.
In the coming weeks, we will see whether Sławomir Mentzen will be able to win the support of the elder electorate and whether the Confederate will be able to break the 5% barrier in the parliamentary elections. 1 thing is certain – the 2024 presidential elections will be very crucial for the future of Poland, and candidates for the office of president must focus on gaining the support of voters.
